Books . . . chocolate . . . tea.
These are a few of my favorite things. Combine them with a sunny summer day, and perhaps a beach or pool, and call me happy!

Books have always been a part of my life, and reading has always been a favorite pastime. In my childhood bookworm days, I'd hide away for hours with Trixie Belden or Laura Ingalls Wilder. These days, I read as much as I can, making it a priority to carve out time for my latest book club read. I love curling up with a cup of tea and getting lost in a good story.

A few years ago I decided to sit down at my computer and give voice to some stories that have been rattling around in my head for a long time. That launched me into the world of fiction writing, specifically the world of romance.

Oh, wow, I don't think I can narrow it down to one "best" thing. So, here are three awesome aspects of being a writer:
1. Flexibility. I love being able to work odd or flexible hours, to work when the inspiration strikes, or to take a break when life demands it. Working from home means I don't have to worry about sick kids or snow days or scheduling appointments.
2. Making things up! It's just plain fun to let stories percolate in my head and then see where they can go. I love being in charge of my own projects and deciding the who, what, where, why and how.
3. The people. It's such a blast to be immersed in books, to meet other authors, to get together and share ideas with critique partners, and, of course, to talk books with readers either in person or on social media. I've always loved books -- reading, libraries, bookstores -- and to be part of the book industry is truly a dream come true!(less)

Celebrating two fictional couples

In the past week, two of my romances have hit publishing anniversaries. Today, it’s my sweet romance Meetings of Chance. Ten years since Tom and Megan came to “life.” Launching a book into the world is a big event for any author. It’s the culmination, for me, of many months, maybe more than a year, of writing, researching and editing. (Okay, yes, there’s also the hand-wringing, tweaking, staring i Read more of this blog post »
