The main theme of the book is speaking up and making a difference in the world, especially when other people are telling you to sit down and shut up. Typically, I enjoy reading books with authors who are enthusiastic and joyous. Although, I find myself reading about a book with such an appalling story which turns the author into a gloomy yet realistic one. I do enjoy the tone of the author as she is stern and acting as if now she is in charge. I very much like the main character Malala for the reason being of having the obstacle of being shot in the face by the Taliban and still being brave enough to stand against them with a bigger voice. Not only just being heard by the Taliban but to different parts of the world. The way she handled the situation in such a positive way really inspired the way I should began to treat difficult situations. "The important thing is God has given me my life." In this case, being a girl makes me enjoy this book more because Malala really undergoes the issue of women's rights as she takes leaderships by having a voice for every other women in the world who isn't being heard. I also like Malala's father, Ziauddin, because of his ambition for his daughters education and his tribute to his quest to be educated and to build a model school. The author writes of her father sitting late into the night, cooking and bagging popcorn to sell so that he would have extra income for his project. This creates me to feel more compassionate towards the book as if it was my own father sacrificing things for me. Right off the bat the author begins the story with setting. "I come from a country that was created at midnight." I can't say I relate to this because Pakistan is a much different place than the U.S. Differences such as social classes, recourses, military force, education, job opportunities. I can defiantly have a feel as to where I was as I read the book when the author introduced Swat Valley in Pakistan. "The high snow topped mountains, green waving fields and fresh blue rivers." "Then I remember I am in Birmingham, England." "I see tall buildings, long roads full of vehicles moving in orderly lines, neat green hedges and lawns, and tidy pavements to walk on." I Am Malala is the remarkable tale of a family uprooted by global terrorism, of the fight for girls' education, of a father who, himself a school owner, championed and encouraged his daughter to write and attend school, and of brave parents who have a fierce love for their daughter in a society that prizes sons. This book can relate to me on a personal level because not only did she fight for women's rights in education but being a role model for all young woman specially ones, like me, who keep hold of their thoughts.

I would recommend this book because reading this reminded me of how much I take for granted every day; freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the freedom to go to the store without needing a male escort. And the ability to get an education, regardless of gender. Not many people realize it but we live great lifestyles that we should appreciate a little more than some may already do. ...more "
