Yes, I was one of the people who had GlitchedCrows' Crimson Rivers as their #1 podcast on Spotify Wrapped 2025. I wish I could have left more comments on their podfic and/or the original fic but unfortunately I mostly listened to it while I was offline.

It has been so long since a story has left me gagged and rolling in bed and making faces, sometimes in public making faces. It's been so long since a story had me ugly sobbing. The writing is just so good!

This was first Jegulus fic I've read and what an introduction it's been! I've never been a fan of the "in love with my best friend's sibling" trope but Jegulus is an exception. I love it when the best friends are as close as Sirius and James and when the little brother is a lovable little shitbag like Regulus. It just works so well and I crave more of this. This dynamic specifically has me in a chokehold. This is the story that got me to cosplay Regulus Black because he is mine now. He is my blorbo and I care so deeply and normally about him oh my gods. I bought new glasses just so that I can cosplay James/Boggart James too at some point. How does someone come up with an idea like combining Marauders with the Hunger Games, make it incredibly gay, and then release it to everyone for free? Ao3 writers are doing the Lord's work.

I need to give additional kudos to Bizarrestars' interpretation of war, grief, and PTSD. Reading this fic, it became very clear how dialed back the PTSD was in the original Hunger Games series. Not to say, it didn't exist, but it did make me realize that Katniss' PTSD was triggered at more convenient times. She would get nightmares, but it would never affect her ability to fight in the area and in the war. Same goes for Peeta and his leg injury (if you only read the second and third book you might not even realize he had a leg injury) and even the other Victors. No one in the Hunger Games series ever seemed triggered by the stress of being put back into the violent setting that caused them PTSD in the first place. No one had disabilities that affected them in a fight. No one expect maybe Haymitch (who is never at the forefront of violence after his arena so his alcoholism does not impair his ability to survive) and Johanna (but once it was discovered she had a PTSD reaction to water she wasn't permitted to fight in the war efforts at all). I think the only times Katniss broke down in the second arena was during the jabberjay attack and when she thought Peeta died. Both times were safe to do so because there weren't any immediate threats surrounding her. Again, this was fine. Everyone reacts to trauma differently and this was one interpretation of it. Plus, Suzanne Collins was more focused on asking bigger political questions rather than the specific effects that war and violence have on survivors.

Bizarrestars showed us that PTSD is a spectrum. People deal with traumatic events differently. For Marlene and Eli, it was alcoholism. Sirius slips away into autopilot mode. Regulus and Lily have to constantly bite back anger and the desire to fight. James has issues dealing with time and distracts himself from his own grief by taking care of others. Dorcas... is a study of experiencing every method of grieving known to man. On top of all that, many of these characters must live with physical disabilities as a result of the hunger games and the war. We get to see the slow adjustments they make to their lives. I love that James and Regulus' respective fears of fire and water don't go away once the war is won and that's treated as okay. I love seeing James use his cane for mobility and defense. I love seeing him need his glasses as well as how some characters use hearing aids or nasal balms to help manage trauma responses. They wanted to fight so people helped them find ways to fight without becoming a liability to themselves or others. I think there's something so special about that. These traits don't just pop up when the characters are safe in their homes or being guarded by loved ones. They can and do pop up in dangerous situations, but they do not make the character's useless or worthless or a liability. I could sit here for days and write essays on what a great writer Bizarre Stars is when it comes to these topics. I don't think I've seen anything like it anywhere else. I'm on my hands and knees begging more people to read this. I need to talk about it with people who understand and can see all the ways this story is a beautiful tribute to life and death. Fuck the first person that tells me "it's just a fanfic." These are the types of fanfics that should be getting awards and publication deals.

A dead flower does not mean, it never bloomed. It did, and it was beautiful." I want those last lines tattooed on my body. I'm crying, y'all. I'm not okay. PLEASE READ THIS!!!!!!

Important note I wrote during the Quarter Quell chapters that perfectly encapsulates my feelings towards the main characters: Regulus is a little bitch for not being able to handle the kind of shit he dishes out but James is a little bitch for being so mean to Regulus during the second games. All these characters are little bitches in their own way and I love them dearly.

I spent 9 months of my life reading this fic... How do I move on? Guess, I'll just start a reread ...more "
