Hi Karen,
Most of my ideas come from some insertion point, meaning something comes to mind or an image forms. Then I play it out in my mind and determine if it fits as a short story or book length work. Some ideas come from real life with a creative twist, or I just envision something and run with it. Most of the time, the creative ideas come from something that I imagine and then I work the story around the central idea. Others use writing prompts and ground stories and books in real life events.
Best,

I ascribe to the approach that you write a certain number of words in a sitting and then walk away from the work. This usually leaves you in the middle of something, so when you come back to it, you are picking up in the middle of something. It places you in a position to keep writing, rather than starting from scratch. Hemingway used this approach. I've done this for decades without experiencing writer's block.(less)

LIMITED DAMAGES (Boston Law Book 1) is out now!

My legal thriller Limited Damages is out now. The first book in a series, it centers around Boston trial lawyer Ken Dwyer and his small firm, as they investigate a wrongful death at a state hospital. Medical malpractice, or murder? Will Ken Dwyer uncover the truth, or suffer another tragedy of street crime?
