Family

I have two brothers and one sister. My sister is the oldest of the family. She is married, two great kids, and works as a Kindergarten teacher (my inspiration for becoming a teacher) in Florida. My older brother works with computers. He had a heart attack and subsequent heart transplant back in 2005. He has been a HUGE inspiration in my life and quite the "role model." My younger brother is married, two great kids, and works as a toolmaker in the tool & die industry.

My mom is probably the biggest part of my life (other than my wife and daughter). She is always there for me when I need her. My father died from a heart attack when I was only four years old. I never knew him, but I always learn more about him with countless people who di

I've received emails from students who have read my novel and how it has changed their perspective on bullying, cutting, and/or suicide. Keep Moving Forward

Well, NaNoWriMo2017 is over. One one hand I'm glad that it is done for this year, but on the other hand I'm sad.

Trying to write a novel in 30 days that has any type of continuity or shape is hard. It's even harder when you don't go in with a specific plan on the novel. I typically don't spend time planning out my writing. This has been a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing because I've been abl Read more of this blog post »

“So avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy. A man is not very tired, he is exhausted. Don’t use very sad, use morose. Language was invented for one reason, boys - to woo women - and, in that endeavor, laziness will not do. It also won’t do in your essays.”

“We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, "O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless... of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?" Answer. That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play *goes on* and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?”
