" Private Peaceful tells the story of Tommo Peaceful, a terrified infantry soldier who station in the trenches of no mans land. The book is set in WWI, in a makeshift trench staring into the battlefield, when Germany constantly pushing french soldiers Private Peaceful tells the story of Tommo Peaceful, a terrified infantry soldier who station in the trenches of no mans land. The book is set in WWI, in a makeshift trench staring into the battlefield, when Germany constantly pushing french soldiers deeper in the western front. Wanting nothing more then to fulfill his brother promise, he must survive hardships, losing his friends, and then dealing how to tell his family, the eldest brother Charlie is dead. How will he face them with a broken promise, such as keeping Charlie alive. How will Molly react to the father of her newborn baby is dead, will she ever speak to Tommo again. While falling asleep, to drown his nightmare, but couldn't grasp the fact his brother death, not even the confronting smiles of his friend cheer him up. This book is a fiction assessment of war, which tell us the life of battle. Those hardships created bonds from people, even thought there dead.

The most memorable part of the book, that when Tommo found out that Charlie had gotten Molly pregnant, a girl raised on strict catholic views, discriminating that the peaceful were devil worshipers. That her family kick her out of her house and then disown her, for having relationships with Charlie Peaceful. Then saying the baby inside of her is a devil child.

Ultimately, the story Private Peaceful, who running from his fears is a story of Thomas Peaceful being stuck in the trench, next to battle harden soldiers pointlessly charging in "No Man Land", attempting to invade out trenches, while his friends were on the verge of either starving or dying in the bloodbath. Its add up to the tale of human pride, that would drag a whole nation into war. Private Peaceful tells that story in great detail, about the pride of nationalism, which started a war, starving millions of people, thousands in poverty, while soldiers died charging into the battlefield.

I would not recommend the book since, it describe humanity mission; to conquer or die, that only the strongest will survive in this world full of greed. Since this book mostly describe the event in WWI, being the life of a soldier, most people would find it interesting, some won't, since your stuck in a trench. The readers who would like this book are people who are interested in the event of war, since in my opinion Germany could have won the war. ...more "
