Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

During t…moreAs a young child, my sister and I read a few stories about mermaids from the local public library which our mother made sure we "frequented." During the summer, when we swam in the local public pool almost daily, we always played "mermaids" and loved using our imaginations in this magical world. So I guess I've always had an interest in fairy tales and other magical adventures...and enjoy reading, hearing or watching as many as I can.

Late spring of 2013, as I was getting A MAGICAL MAIDEN and A MINSTREL ready for publishing, I began dreaming up this TWIN TAILS of Mason Beach story and began writing it down and creating thumbnail sketches of the characters as this fun story began to unfold in my vivid imagination. I see things very visually. Before I knew it, I had not only written TWIN TAILS of Mason Beach, but fairly detailed outlines for TWIN TAILS book 2 and 3...and a probable idea for a book 4! I began illustrating Book One that summer of 2013. I am so excited to share this first book, TWIN TAILS of Mason Beach, with as many young, emerging readers, families, teachers, and other passionate readers of children's books! However, when …moreI have not really had to deal with writer's block yet. My problem is finding enough time to write & illustrate as life is so very busy. However, when I am feeling the urge to begin, I sit and meditate and ponder my story and other favorites that inspire me...sometimes listening to music and singing as well. I open the door to my imagination and it helps me to create and write. Of course, not everything that comes through that imaginative door is a keeper idea, but it helps to get those creative juices a-flowing as a writer and an illustrator!(less)
