I live next door to what one would call a ‘neighbor from hell.’ This man is overly obsessed with me. I do have difficulty understanding or being able to explain the reason for him to be like this towards me. He’s a mystery to me because of not knowing his true nature. I have been living in this situation for years, where it is unclear to me and I’m not fully understanding him, and I am fully baffled by this enigma person.

I call him enigma because it’s hard to figure out, why a gay man in his 70’s would want my attention, when I’m a single straight female in her 50’s who doesn’t date older men. I guess you could call me a cougar, because I have only dated men that have been 1 to 5 years younger. So, his obsession with me isn’t about dating me. So, that would only leave the mystery part of why he wants all of my attention.

This is where a detective would come into play, making this story a cozy mystery, and not a mystery because there’s no real crime or a murder to solve. As in I have a real detective that is on my case of ‘why is this man doing the things he’s doing.’ My neighbor skates the fine line of the law. He pushes the envelope right to the edge before it becomes illegal.

Here are some of the weird things he does on a daily and nightly basis that could make a cozy mystery plot come together. He will mow my concrete driveway, put metal poles along my driveway, move my plants, and weird things like this to get my attention. He jumps my back fence to look around my backyard in the middle of the night. He walks up and down both sides of my house day or night. Sits on my porch at night. All of these are considered a nuisance and not a crime. Which means there’s really nothing that can be done.

He is a thief. He had stolen flowers from me, which weren’t enough money to have him arrested. The last time he stole from me was this past summer, the sanitation department gave us rolling trash cans for over a month because of the gas company replacing our old meters with new ones, and the sanitation trucks were unable to dump our dumpsters. On the first night of having the rolling trash cans, he came onto my property and stole it. Which means that he got my attention because I had to call and report him. The sanitation department gave me a new one and it took them 4 days to get the stolen one back from him. He got away with it because it’s only a $175.00 crime.

My detective feels that I’m in danger, as well as I do from this man. All because there’s no real answer to what his real intention is and/or are. I’m very thankful that this detective believes me, and has been documenting my property daily for over 5 years. So, I live in a mystery of what will be the final chapter, the end of the story, when he finally reveals his true intentions.
