Deborah Ann Lucas and her husband live on a twenty-acre farm in north-central Illinois with two retired racehorses, a German shepherd dog, and a slew of cats who have wandered into their barn. Her life down the long lane inspires her writing and art.
After earning an MFA in Ceramics from UCLA, Deborah taught at universities in three states, exhibited and sold her art internationally, and will be releasing a new series of horse watercolors.

Deborah writes about her family, women’s empowerment, her connection to nature, and her love for horses. Her memoir, DANCE WHILE THE FIRE BURNS: Family, Identity, and Dreams, was a finalist in the 2025 American Writing Awards for Memoirs and Best New (Debut) Nonfiction.
