Ken Carrier comes from a military family with multiple generations of Marines. He was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, on August 17, 1970.

His love of writing traces back to a creative writing course that he took during his junior year of high school. Each class started with a quick shuffle of desks into a circle for engaged discussion of each other's writing—something revolutionary for young minds used to disappearing in neat, orderly rows. Around this time, Ken discovered Jack Kerouac’s stream-of-consciousness writing style. Kerouac’s book On the Road grabbed his imagination and wouldn’t let go. It remains today as one of his favorite books, and a well-worn copy sits in his book collection.

Ken served in the Marine Corps for five years, including a deployment to Mogadishu, Somalia, during the period leading up to the events later chronicled in Mark Bowden's Black Hawk Down. In 1994, he left the Marine Corps as a Sergeant (E-5) and earned his business degree at Arizona Western College using the Montgomery GI Bill. He later studied meteorology at Penn State and earned his Operational Weather Forecasting Certificate.

He has two sons and a daughter with his wife of over three decades, Maria Isabel Carrier, who is from Nayarit, Mexico. One evening while on vacation in Mexico, Ken's friend Jason asked him to approach a beautiful girl to see if she wanted to dance with him. His friend didn’t speak any Spanish, and Ken spoke just enough to get into trouble. The girl turned down his friend’s offer but said she would dance with Ken. The rest is history.

Ken is a lifelong Red Sox fan who was sure to pass his love of the Sox down to his three kids. Ken established rules in his house for his kids, starting with no Yankees fans allowed. The only exception Ken makes is the Yankees fan and author Lee Child, whose books he happily keeps on his shelves. Ken has read almost every novel in the voluminous Jack Reacher series.

In addition to baseball, Ken’s hobbies include drinking fine single malt scotch, fishing, gardening, and going to the rifle range, which is fortunately located within a few miles of his house. On some days, he can hear large-caliber rifles being fired in the distance, which always makes him smile and think, “God, I love the sound of freedom!”

Holyoke, Mexico, and the Marine Corps are all deeply and personally interwoven in Ken’s debut novel, “TIGER: A Veteran Wages War on a Cartel”, which is also the first installment in the Sean Murphy thriller series. Ken has already started work on the next book in the series. ...more
