Basic to the process is the phrase "magnify, minify, modify." In the case of writer's block, I apply the solution to take another look at the problem that stopped me. I suggest you start on a note pad separate from your manuscript. Reading, back up in your story a bit, briefly magnify the essentials in the story to the point your stopped...the important characters' actions, the dilemma he, she or they are facing, note the next possibilities as you see them, leaving room for change. Select one or two (minify) and see if they fit with your outline, or whether you should continue on a new course (modify). If you choose the latter, then rough out the alternative ending. You could also ask yourself: "Do I know all there is to know about my leading and secondary characters, where they came from, what motivates them, their relationships with the rest of my story's cast (written about or not...the influences they have had on the characters), the situation that started the whole story and what is now propelling the story forward?" I find there are usually answers there that solve my own writer's block.
I'm certain you've heard the others, which apply to any creative writing: Find time each day to write...and write anything...at least 100-250 words on any subject. Maybe start a journal...specific to your writing project or just life in general, as you see it. Find a place and a time where you can write undisturbed for at least an hour...even if it means getting up early. And find the time to read. Read anything...magazines, newspapers, maps, history, critiques, fiction, non-fiction, short stories, novels...as well as the genre which closest fits your writing aspirations. Try books that discuss your genre. Join a writers club...one whose members are genuinely interested in actually writing for publication. Join a book readers club that speaks at least generally to your genre.
I'd write more, but it seems I'm stuck. (Small joke here.)(less)

Developing heroes, villains and the rest of the cast based on my ideas of good and bad. Exotic (and not so exotic) places and time periods I cannot enter in reality but I can research, remember, and write about. Imagination is a wonderful place to visit. (less)
