Story Drop — He Wasn’t Supposed to Be in the Water

They didn’t think anything of it at first.

The net dragged heavier than expected, but that happens. Tide shifts. Debris moves. You feel it through the line before you ever see it.

One of them glanced back, more out of habit than concern.

“Bit of weight on it,” he said.

No one answered. The engine kept its steady rhythm, pushing them forward, the line tightening behind them.

They didn’t stop.
