This early exposure to vulnerability, patience, and emotional complexity became a defining element of his worldview. At the age of fourteen, he began attending school at night to balance education with family duties, an experience that instilled discipline and resilience that would later shape both his professional and creative paths.
At eighteen, Hamilton entered public service and later trained as a nurse. His career in healthcare took him to the Amazon rainforest, where he spent five years working alongside Indigenous communities. Life in the Amazon exposed him to the raw intersections of survival, tradition, exploitation, and silence, leaving a lasting impression on his understanding of humanity and the natural world. These years profoundly influenced his narrative voice, reinforcing his interest in stories grounded in lived experience rather than abstraction.
In 2005, Hamilton returned to Europe to reconnect with his roots, settling first in Portugal for a decade before later living in England and Scotland. During this period, he earned a degree in Literature and Languages, studied Spanish for two years, and obtained English-language certifications while living in the United Kingdom. Alongside his academic studies, much of his professional life in Europe was dedicated to mental health care.
Throughout his career, Hamilton worked closely with adults facing dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia, and severe depression, as well as with children and adolescents experiencing learning disabilities, eating disorders, emotional trauma, and complex developmental challenges. Daily exposure to the fragile boundaries of identity, control, obsession, and loss deeply shaped his understanding of human relationships and informs the psychological realism present in his fiction.
Alongside his adult work, Hamilton is also an established author of children’s literature. His published titles include The Boy with the Banana Nose, Clara, The Flying Cow, The Kangaroo Egg, Bea, The Gossiping Bee, The Zebra, the Lion and the Magical Pond, and The Boogeyman and the Missing Dreams. His stories for young readers explore kindness, difference, curiosity, and resilience, allowing him to move fluidly between light and darkness, simplicity and complexity.
Hamilton writes in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, publishing his work in all three languages. His recent adult novel Bloodlust reached #1 on Amazon in three fiction categories and received consistent five-star reader reviews, confirming strong engagement from an international readership.
Since 2024, Hamilton has dedicated himself fully to writing. Now based in Canada, he continues to develop adult fiction that explores love, time, power, and transformation, drawing on observation, emotional restraint, and the belief that the smallest gestures often reveal the deepest truths.
