Mary Oliver
“After a cruel childhood, one must reinvent oneself. Then reimagine the world.”
Mary Oliver

Richard Siken
“Here is my hand, my heart, my throat, my wrist. Here are the illuminated cities at the center of me, and here is the center of me, which is a lake, which is a well that we can drink from, but I can't go through with it. I just don't want to die anymore.”
Richard Siken, Crush

Virginia Woolf
“I am never stagnant; I rise from my worst disasters, I turn, I change.”
Virginia Woolf, The Waves

Mary Oliver
“Things! Burn them, burn them! Make a beautiful fire! More room in your heart for love, for the trees! For the birds who own nothing—the reason they can fly.”
Mary Oliver, Felicity

Mary Oliver
“I Worried"

I worried a lot. Will the garden grow, will the rivers
flow in the right direction, will the earth turn
as it was taught, and if not how shall
I correct it?

Was I right, was I wrong, will I be forgiven,
can I do better?

Will I ever be able to sing, even the sparrows
can do it and I am, well,
hopeless.

Is my eyesight fading or am I just imagining it,
am I going to get rheumatism,
lockjaw, dementia?

Finally I saw that worrying had come to nothing.
And gave it up. And took my old body
and went out into the morning,
and sang.”
Mary Oliver, Swan: Poems and Prose Poems
