"Mrs. Barret is currently the newest SCOTUS publisher, so I decided to read the most recent work of a very new justice. She is a bit of a taboo compared to her colleagues when it comes to her work experience. Aside from that, she gives both her life's perspective and the SCOTUS POV on law and it's mechanisms. I do enjoy it thus far." — 6 hours, 44 min ago

"''What is the difference between the tyrant and the king—for their outward symbols of authority and their powers are the same—except it be that tyrants take delight in cruelty, whereas kings are only cruel for good reasons and because they cannot help it''" — Jan 28, 2026 11:04PM

"It’s interesting, I’d say. Mostly good so far with solid stuff. There is one line where the author claims (without any citation) that Saturnalia was just reappropriated to Christmas, a claim as old as a certain Lutheran historian and many later unconventional Protestants would adopt. Of course, I say it’s false but there’s all too many other books that discuss that trope. Other than that, I like the rest!" — Jul 18, 2025 07:20PM
