A life-long history nerd, I'm a fan of 1920s-1940s films, the New York Public Library, Art Deco and ancient ruins. Favourite books include: 'The Wind Eye' by Robert Westall, 'The Princess Bride' by William Goldman, 'A Month In The Country' by J.L. Carr, 'Heartburn' by Nora Ephron, 'The Penelopiad' by Margaret Atwood, 'I Capture the Castle' by Dodie Smith and 'The Red Tent' by Anita Diamant.

I'm on GoodReads as both a reader and a writer. As a reader, I understand the value of critical reviews - they can be funny and illuminating, and sometimes pique my interest in reading a book more than a rave would. As a writer, I know they can sting and want to avoid bad karma. Therefore, I'm a generous marker, and my GoodReads rating system runs the ga

“But I was in search of love in those days, and I went full of curiosity and the faint, unrecognized apprehension that here, at last, I should find that low door in the wall, which others, I knew, had found before me, which opened on an enclosed and enchanted garden, which was somewhere, not overlooked by any window, in the heart of that grey city.”
Evelyn Waugh, Brideshead Revisited

Thanks, Pam 💚 - yes, I'd like to, maybe for Christmas 2026! I'm working on a historical fiction story at the moment - and looking forward to writing something more lighthearted again after that.

Pam"

That's very kind of you to ask, Pam, thank you 💜 It's an anthology of short stories by students (including me) on a creative writing course taught by the folklorist Sophie Parkes. I don't think there's any plan for it to be a paperback - it's only about 70 pages and more a memento of the course.
