A life-long New Yorker, Mark has a passion for history, New York City, Broadway musicals and fantasy. His professional career in magazine publishing pro-vided access to the print and photo archives of numerous publications. His favorite branch of the New York Public Library is the Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.

His first book was inspired by and co-authored with his father, historian John Walter, who passed away from the Covid pandemic before the book could be completed.

At first he didn't realize what they were, then became intrigued by the realization that he had no idea why some of the people listed had been given a parade. While researching it with me, we discovered that there is no history about the parades themselves, and that the type of honoree changed over time, which would provide an interesting way to examine the way our culture and city have evolved over time.(less)
