I flip flopped between the audiobook and the physical book, but have to say I think the audiobook made the book. The two narrator’s were absolutely amazing! I was hooked from the very beginning. The world building and the magic is intriguing! Very different from other fantasy books I’ve read recently, plus magical tattoos?? How cool is that?! Definitely a new concept with how the fae, vampires, witches and such magical creatures with how they are all intertwined with one another.

Now, the characters… I loved them all! Saeris is strong, brave, blunt and straight to the point. She’s persistent, she doesn’t give up easily and she is not weak. She does what she needs to do to survive and keep her brother alive. We find out a bit of her backstory and it explains a lot about why she is is the way she is. I love Saeris sassiness and snarky remarks. Especially when she interacts with Kingfisher. She has easily become one of my favorite FMC!! Now Kingfisher.. oof, that man. Hes powerful, but doesn’t come off in a way that lets his ego show. Hes dangerous, in a sexy, jaw dropping kind of way.. but also know not to cross his bad side. Kingfisher does come off very harshly and rudely to Saeris in the beginning, but as the story develops we understand why. As the two of them get closer, the sparks really being to fly. The banter, the tension and the spice between them… oof, I was living for those parts in the story. There was just enough spicy scenes that it didnt take a way from the overall story, if not added to it.

Overall, amazing story! Characters were perfect, even the side characters too! World development is not super difficult to understand, but there are definitely pieces that we are missing but I think they will definitely be explained in book 2. I can’t wait for book 2! ...more "
