Review of The Adventures of Roald Dahl (Going Solo)

Going Solo shows us how Dahl (the author) reacts and feels about World War II. This is the autobiography of Roald Dahl, who was a famous English author. Roald Dahl was born on September 13, 1916 in Llandaff, Cardiff, and Wales. He was a pilot for the British Air Force and he flew various planes such as Gladiators, Hurricanes, and Messerschmitt 109 and encounters Ju88 Bombers. He shows a lot of passion about nature and life and he always enjoys his adventures. For instance, when his squadron was relocated, Roald Dahl asks the commanding officer if he could drive there instead of flying. He always wants to see new things and take a look at nature.

The message that Dahl wants to give the reader is that in the starting of the war, the British had a lot of misinformation. He demonstrates this one by one. When a British officer told Dahl, an inexperienced soldier, to lead an army and stop the Germans, Dahl was shocked. Dahl uses a lot of irony and humor in all parts of the book. He shows us how lucky he was to survive when there were 1,000 Germans planes against 15 British planes.

The book had a lot of exiting parts and I enjoyed it. It shows the reader some knowledge about World War 2 and also some different points of view of the people. Roald Dahl did a good job on making the book interesting and he made me feel like I was in the book. The book characters have a variety of different personalities. Some were weird and some were funny. Some were serious and I understand how this inspired Dahl to write these creative and great imaginary children’s books. (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, and Matilda.) Roald Dahl was really descriptive in the book and that’s how I think he made it more exiting. Roald Dahl wrote this book to explain what life was like in World War 2 and how so many people died because of bad information in war. I’ve read some Roald Dahl children and I will say this is one of the best. Overall I really recommend you to read this book because this book really helps you to think more and deeper and go into another world in World War 2. ...more "
