Decker and Penelope have known each other since they were 11 and their feelings for each other have only grown over the years. They’ve had a few intimate moments, but one of them always seems to pull away. Why does Decker bring her in close just to let her slip away? And why didn’t Penelope return to their hotel room years ago? It’s been years since they’ve had to deal with their feelings in close proximity. However, all that changes when Penelope and her daughter move to Chicago to be closer to family. Closer to her dad that is, the coach of the Chicago Colts, and more specifically Decker’s coach. Decker is yet to secure a contract to play with the Colts next year and Penelope doesn’t want him to risk his career for her. They also have another major problem to address, one that has been keeping them at arms length for years. Penelope has a complicated history with Foster, Decker’s brother. The two brothers have made a lot of progress over the last year and Decker doesn’t want anything getting in the way of that. Even if it might cost him the person he wants more than anything.
Penelope and Decker’s feelings for each other have always been rock solid, it’s the things and people they risk losing by being together that pull them apart.

This was a well paced and enjoyable read. I loved the pinning and the angst between Penelope and Decker. I will say this story leans a bit sweeter than spicy, but it is the perfect fit for the dynamic between Penelope and Decker. Something I love about the Dugout series is the strong FMCs. Penelope is no exception, she isn’t going to beg Decker to choose her. Either he chooses her or he doesn’t even if it is excruciating. This story comes with the usual comradery of the Colt’s players which adds a bit of charm to the books. I specifically enjoyed the growth between Decker and Foster that we see in this book. It was an all around enjoyable read that I will be recommending to others.
