Susanne Pari is a novelist, journalist, essayist, book reviewer, and author interviewer. Born in New Jersey to an Iranian father and an American mother, she grew up both in the United States and Iran until the 1979 Islamic Revolution forced her family into permanent exile. Since then, her writing has focused on stories of displacement and belonging, of identity and assimilation, of trauma and resilience.

Susanne's first novel, The Fortune Catcher, told the story of a young woman—American and Iranian, Jewish and Muslim—caught in the aftermath of the Iranian Revolution. It has been translated into six languages. Her second novel, IN THE TIME OF OUR HISTORY, is about a large immigrant family grappling with the future of their traditions as the

So sweet of you to update the review and to send me a message. I know what you mean about losing the details of a book once you've read it; I even have this problem with the things I write! So it means the world to me to know that you retained a lot! Don't worry about THE FORTUNE CATCHER; it's currently out of print and was published before e-books became a thing. I'll announce it on my website and here when it's reissued.

So...the Persian Jewish parents who didn't 'approve' of you for their son: their loss! It's amazing how Iranian Jews are so, well, Iranian. I'm one-quarter Ashkenazi (my mom's side) and yes, the rituals are so similar. The seven-day mourning period is basically 'sitting shiva'. In my first novel, the main character is half Jewish American and half Moslem Iranian, so I explored a lot of the similarities.

Good luck with your ban on book buying. I'm a hopeless addict! And thanks again for giving my novel your attention. It's all that matter to a writer. xo(less)

Bill Hello Susanne,

Happy to be one of your many fans. Also, interested in your "interviews & panel discussions" Please check out my latest book synopsis & reviews, The Feathery, on Amazon. Will most certainly do the same with, The Fortune Catcher. Just finished reading the best selling novel, The Shack, and mystified as to that status. What's your take on the book?
Best wishes go to you, Susanne.
