I am a big fan of cyberpunk, so reading this book is an instant immersion into the fictional world that our real world is impatiently waiting to experience through such other entertainment options as the Cyberpunk 2077 video game, the associated Cyberpunk Red tabletop rpg (the newly revised version of Mike Pondsmith's Cyberpunk 2013 and Cyberpunk 2020), and the up-and-coming Carbon 2185 rpg from Dragon Turtle Games (edited by yours truly). For those intrigued by stories like Bladerunner or Altered Carbon, Gibson's Neuromancer is timeless. If anything, the artifact of paper cigarettes is about as technologically stilted as it gets (in the wake of modern e-cigs and vaping gear) in this story. To have the sort of vision on technology and the role of corporate intrigue that Gibson, and PK Dick before him, had is remarkable given the example of those subjects today. But that's what remarkable science fiction does - it projects the reality ahead with prophetic accuracy - and we are thrilled to go along for the ride right into the future that is very nearly our present....more
