Stephen Amos was born in Merthyr Tydfil in south Wales and now lives in the Rhondda, the setting of his first novel - Lucy For Ever. An avid cinephile, Stephen studied film at Middlesex University in the 90s.

He has been writing short stories for decades but never had the confidence to release them. It was when he started writing film reviews that his confidence grew and he started publishing his work. Two and a half years ago, he teamed up with a great group of guys to create film89.co.uk, a site of reviews, news and podcasts dedicated to the very best in movies.

Lucy For Ever took three years to write and Stephen often found it difficult to juggle work, family and writing. He hopes the next project won't take so long.

The family could be sitting down watching TV when suddenly we would all turn our heads, as if aware of a presence in the room. It was often concentrated itself at the bottom of the stairs and we made up stories as to who had died there.

It was a small mystery, but isn't that just a thread that needs pulling, revealing the bigger mystery we are not yet aware of.(less)
Stephen Amos Building the story, putting together the mystery, chipping away at the marble knowing that somewhere inside, there is a story worth telling.

Not as epic as it should have been. Some of the humour made me chuckle but it also undermines some of the drama at times. It tries to be Joe Abercrombie meets Terry Prachet, but doesn't quite succeed. Still, I know people who would probably like this ...more

“Anyone can be a film critic. The apprentice supposedly need not possess a tenth of the knowledge that would be demanded of a critic of literature, music or painting. A director must live with the fact that his work will be called to judgment by someone who has never seen a film of Murnau’s.”
François Truffaut, The Films in My Life
