In a pique of anger, my mother had told my younger sister to tell me that I had been born a twin. This was nothing that had ever been alluded to in my past and my dad had denied it but he was not the most reliable historian either. During COVID, I had some time on my hands and the notion kept turning itself over in my head. I just kept thinking, "what if?" and that curiosity provided the genesis of this book. (less)

Getting active and literally changing my perspective almost always gives me the time or shift I need to address it.
However, during the whole process of writing, "the vulture girl" I never knew what would be coming next. There would be a sense of curiosity about something, like a calling toward some symbol (an example might be recognizing rabbit as an inner guide) and I would physically inhabit whatever related yoga pose I could find and breath slowly and deeply, listening for as long as it would take until a voice started telling me a story.
Otherwise, what other people call writer's block, I usually consider "incubation." This is a necessary part of the creativity process and I have to remind myself of this as often as I tell my coaching clients. We just can't be productive all of the time. I try to be patient and compassionate and to nourish myself during this phase, giving my literary mind free reign to explore wikkipedia rabbit holes, books that seem like they need reading even if they have no connection at all, permission to take extra naps, and, you guessed it, lots and lots of walks!(less)

Get to know your writing self. Write about everything and nothing and don't edit yourself too harshly. You (we all) definitely need to practice a craft and nothing does that like good old-fashioned experience, but also, be open to the "mistakes" you See Full Answer

Anaïs Nin
“We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations.”
