Patrick Abide grew up in rural Mississippi. He splits life between mountain trails on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee and making music for his band, Mach Bend. Abide finds inspiration in the colorful Deep Southern culture of his upbringing and in the stories of cancer patients he treats as an oncologist in his day job. He is married and has three children.

He has published editorial pieces in JAMA Oncology. This is his first novel.
