message 103: by Alyssa (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alyssa What are we talking about? How did the conversation get here?

message 104: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Shatford Just hurry up and make the movie

message 105: by Alyssa (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alyssa I agree

message 106: by Eddie (new)

Eddie Shaw I enjoy Skuldugary so much, i've only got 5 of the books so far but intend to get all the others. In regards to who i think would make a good skuldugary pleasent i see a lot of you saying Christopher Eccleston or David Tennant but personnally i think Matt Smith would make a good Skuldugary, he got a great voice for sarcasm, intelligence and a good intonation for the way Skuldugary likes to praise himself, and also a good level of darkness which anyone playing Skulduggary would need

message 107: by Alyssa (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alyssa Doctors 9 and 10 had a good level of darkness to them.

Actually, what if this book were turned into a video game? What if you could play as Skulduggery? Wield his powers? I think this would actually work for a third-person shooter-type game with no guns.

message 109: by Alyssa (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alyssa I prefer the movie, mostly because I'm terrible at video games.

Yes! A fellow Whovian

Without guns is wouldn't be accurate, however I like the game idea more than the film idea.

There's quite a few Whovians contributing to this conversation.

that would be amazing

Jack Merriman You may think that there is no more hope with Derek Landy taking back his rights to the movie a couple of years ago. But wait! Derek Landy gave a talk in the Ark, Temple Bar, Dublin, Ireland. Which I attended. While there, he said that there were plans for a new movie, but he couldn't make any official announcements as "the [studio's] legal team suck" He didn't announce any cast or studio, but he promised that the final script would be made by him and him only. Apparently in the last movie deal with Warner Bros. the final script edited featured a song and dance number with Skulduggery singing to 'Man in the Mirror' by Michael Jackson (No joke, I am being 100% serious about everything.) and doing the moonwalk.

So Minions (Derek Landy fans) get ready for a Skulduggery Pleasant movie!

Nuno Guerreiro Francisco Wow, if what you say it's true that's really awesome, I've been waiting for that movie a long time ago and I hope it works out and they do like Harry Potter and Hunger Games and make all the books into movies...

message 116: by Angela (new) - rated it 5 stars

Angela if its going to be turned into a movie i hope its very like the book cuz sometimes movies ruin the book for people. hopefully the characters will look very like the ones in the book

message 117: by Nuno (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nuno Guerreiro Francisco I think it will cause the script is gonna be written by Derek himself

message 118: by Angela (new) - rated it 5 stars

Angela Nuno wrote: "I think it will cause the script is gonna be written by Derek himself"

sometimes the actors look very different from the book cuz i dont see how theyre gonna get a ghastly and all those creatures. and i dont want them to ruin the image i have for skulduggery. in my imagination hes really good looking ;)

message 119: by Nuno (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nuno Guerreiro Francisco Sure, most of the times books are better than movies because whe imagine like we want it but I think that Derek unlike other authors really cares about his story and won't let the director or even the studios ruin the movie, like they did for example with "Percy Jackson"

yeah i agree i love him

Alyssa Nuno wrote: "Sure, most of the times books are better than movies because whe imagine like we want it but I think that Derek unlike other authors really cares about his story and won't let the director or even ..."

I had a complete fangirl meltdown when I just watched the trailers, and then I saw the movies. Someone needs to take the entire book series, hardback, and go slap the director with it.

message 122: by Nuno (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nuno Guerreiro Francisco It's in part the director's fault but above all the screenwriters, because they're the ones that wrote the screenplay... But in Skulduggery if Derek writtes the screenplay at least it will be much like the book

Wren Jack wrote: "You may think that there is no more hope with Derek Landy taking back his rights to the movie a couple of years ago. But wait! Derek Landy gave a talk in the Ark, Temple Bar, Dublin, Ireland. Which..."

what is the significance of the michael jackson song??? :P

message 124: by Ben (new)

Ben Humphreys The movie was said to come out on 28 of August 2012 but the most we have is a tease trailor

message 125: by Alyssa (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alyssa Nuno wrote: "It's in part the director's fault but above all the screenwriters, because they're the ones that wrote the screenplay... But in Skulduggery if Derek writtes the screenplay at least it will be much ..."

That's true. I guess none of the screenwriters actually read the books. They were just given a summary and told "Go crazy."

message 126: by Nuno (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nuno Guerreiro Francisco I think that one thing That's absolutely wrong in book-to-movie adaptations is who writes the screenplay, I think the author should always write the screenplay, except in some cases like "The Hobbit" or "The Chronicles of Narnia" in which the author was already dead...

message 127: by Ben (new)

Ben Humphreys If Derek Landry were to write the screenplay then we would be watching a very long but very awsome movie and that is what I wany

message 128: by Alyssa (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alyssa Or at least let the fans write the screenplay. They should just get together a group of fans and let them do it, because they know the book, they know the characters and plot, and they know who will be disappointed if the movie doesn't turn out awesome.

If they ever make a "Percy Jackson 3" movie, I'd only go and watch it just to see how badly they screwed up this time.

message 129: by Ben (new)

Ben Humphreys People of goodreads we shall write our own screen play for skulduggery and then send it to Derek landy

message 130: by Grey (new)

message 138: by Ben (new)

Angela Ben wrote: "It's not to hard and we can use blogger to manage this and I'll just put it all together in the end once we have our screenplay"

dude im 12 years old. i seriously dont get this but i want to do it with you

message 140: by Alyssa (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alyssa I'm 22 and I want to be a writer. I'll help in whatever way I can.

Channah This is all so touching. :)
It would be cool to have a movie, and I like that the author is defending it, but Ender's Game made me wary... sometimes even the author doesn't do a good job.

so whos gonna do it?

message 144: by Jack (new)

Jack Merriman As stated in my previous comment, Derek Landy has already written a screenplay, to quote him, he said it was 'absolute gold'. I will try and record him talking about the movie when he does his thing at the Pavilion Theatre so I have some solid evidence, then upload it to Youtube so we can spread the word.
I sometimes think that Skulduggery Pleasant would work better as a TV Show because of its many plot lines and characters but that's just me.
They'll probably do a Twilight/Harry Potter Job and have the Dying of the Light movie in two parts.
Before I spill anything I'd have to make contact and see if it would damage any relations between Derek and the film studio.
I remember Rick Riordan getting uninvolved in the Percy Jackson movie straight away and saying that he didn't want anything to do with it. I don't respect him a lot for that,
But there has never been a bigger abomination in book to film since Cirque Du Freak, The Vampire's Assistant

message 145: by Nuno (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nuno Guerreiro Francisco When you upload it can you please post the link on this thread? That would be really great to have some solid evidences!

are you 100% sure Derek wrote his own screenplay?

I agree with you in not respecting Riordan for getting uninvolved in the Percy Jackson movies. They made me want to cry.

message 148: by Alyssa (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alyssa If anyone does, slap them.
