Cinna's Death And How It Affect The Rest Of The Series

That said, I think Prim's death was most tragic

I was gutted when he died, although it's obviously necessary for the series. I thought he was pretty much the only nice character other than Peeta in the series.

Melina you are totally right. I will change it! Thank you!

I love Cinna! Was totally depressing when he died. I don't actually remember his death being confirmed??? I saw a really great fanfiction on facebook where Cinna comes and visits Katniss and Peeta several years later and his death was just played by Snow to hurt Katniss. If only.

I'm sorry for anyone who actually had wasted their time reading that pathetic and inaccurate fight, and I'm sorry to Ashley for helping out in spoiling a great topic. I'll delete my arguments because it's silly. I've already rested my case and yet I decided to engage in more insults. I've acted like a child.

His last act was to fuel the rebellion, and to announce Katniss as the Mockingjay, and he risked his life while (whilst?) doing so.
(I'm not kidding, I just had to take a break from writing this because I was tearing quite heavily...)
This is one of my favourite Hunger Games series quotes:
“It crosses my mind that Cinna's calm and normal demeanor masks a complete madman.”
and also,
“I always channel my emotions into my work. That way, I don't hurt anyone but myself.”
When Cinna was beaten, I knew he was going to die, I had to stop reading the book for a couple of hours to process that (and...er, cry). Cinna is the most inspiring character in the series, he was so passionate, caring, strong and brave.
R.I.P Cinna <3

And also, Prim's death really got me thinking. I didn't really feel sad when she died, just angry and confused.
Katniss went to amazing lengths to keep Primrose healthy and safe throughout the books. Volunteered at the reaping, risked her life and hunted for years.
She was like the rock of the series. No Primrose, no volunteering, no Games, no romance no rebellion. Without her, there would be no story.
So after ALL THAT, three whole books that were made just because Prim was reaped, Suzanne Collins blows her up...by Gale. Of ALL people.
Sure, Collins needed a reason that Katniss couldn't be with Gale, but did she have to kill of PRIM?
THE-WHOLE-BASE-OF-THE-FRICKIN-STORY?!

Gale did not blow her up, that was Coin

He had his part in her death, but he did not kill her.

Yes, it was Coin, but Gale created the bomb. And Collins sure went to an effort to convince us that it was Gale's fault.

I sent you a message about it

I know I held out till that point in Mockingjay that he was still alive somewhere. I just didn't want to believe he was gone.

Exactly. She was one of my favorite characters. In a way that no one saw, she died for Freedom. She killed herself for Katniss and Peeta

The question posed in the topic subject line was "Cinna's Death And How It Affect The Rest Of The Series"...and when I saw this, I had to ask myself...Did it in fact affect the rest of the series? And the answer is, i think (unfortunately) "No".
Cinna was one of the few characters that the author really managed to bring some kind of significance and dimension to...and then (like elsewhere in the series with other really great characters) she just gave up on them.
As much as I love the series...one of my biggest problems with it is that some deaths are treated respect and some modicum of significance (isn't all live sacred?)...but for the most part, death is treated with an almost "video game" like irrelevance. People get slaughtered at the drop of a hat and everybody just keeps going as if "oh well". In a few places, you can tell the author tried to make the death of someone "meaningful" by having a character refer back to them reverently, but on the whole, it never feels like enough.
Cinna's death (or his supposed death, as we never actually "see" but rather are told about it, which by the way was an awful cheat and a really bad move narratively, but I digress) unfortunately did not affect the series. Death itself does not seem to affect this series. It is a part of this series, but it always seems like death is so rampant and plentiful that it loses all of its meaning and significance to the characters involved.
And maybe, in the end, after all the analysis...maybe that's what it was all about. Endless slaughter, unrelenting massacres...for those who survive, it's almost enough just to live or, rather, exist. if they stop and think about those that they lost and how they lost them...perhaps it would be too much to bear.
For such a popular book/series...it actually possesses a rather dire and pessimistic viewpoint...all the way to the bitter end.

I'm so sorry about the spoiler you read :(

I do the same Gretchen! I had a spoiler of another book because I added it too early. (never made the same mistake since then!)
By the way, I was so upset after Cinna's death... kind of "it couldn't be, it couldn't be!".
My favorite quote from Cinna is "I still bet on you". It was such a touching moment to me!

It is about a war, and in war deaths can be random & undeserving people suffer too. At least this is my understanding of it from the people I knew who fought in WW1 and WW2.

I'm not a crier at all, but i was close to tears on these deaths. The way that they always referenced Cinna and implied his style, i loved, how they used his book of designs, and Katniss pretended they were hers touched them. How did there deaths affect you guys? or Anyone's death really .
