Ashley Cinna's Death was the 2nd most tragic for me.

1) Mags
2) Cinna
3) Finnick

I'm not a crier at all, but i was close to tears on these deaths. The way that they always referenced Cinna and implied his style, i loved, how they used his book of designs, and Katniss pretended they were hers touched them. How did there deaths affect you guys? or Anyone's death really .

Mimi ❤ Ashley this is a great topic and all but I think it would be much better if you've set this up on Mockingjay. You might have spoiled for other readers

That said, I think Prim's death was most tragic

Anastasia Cinna was the only character I really liked. He was awesome.
I was gutted when he died, although it's obviously necessary for the series. I thought he was pretty much the only nice character other than Peeta in the series.

Melina you are totally right. I will change it! Thank you!

Brenna Cinna was kinda her one supporter throughout the Capitol (not all of the districts, just the Capitol) I was not surprised when he died but it still made me sad!

Dee i had kinda hoped that maybe he wasn't dead, but being tortured and would be found later on

Uditi Wow. Do we really need this here? I don't think so. I don't like how all teenagers are being insulted by the actions of one person however I do agree that there was no need for insults. How about this stops now?

I love Cinna! Was totally depressing when he died. I don't actually remember his death being confirmed??? I saw a really great fanfiction on facebook where Cinna comes and visits Katniss and Peeta several years later and his death was just played by Snow to hurt Katniss. If only.

Mimi ❤ Uditi you are indeed correct, I've let my pride get the best of me.

I'm sorry for anyone who actually had wasted their time reading that pathetic and inaccurate fight, and I'm sorry to Ashley for helping out in spoiling a great topic. I'll delete my arguments because it's silly. I've already rested my case and yet I decided to engage in more insults. I've acted like a child.

Daniel His death was sort of confirmed in the 3rd book. In Mockingjay, Katniss is told that Cinna is believed to have been killed during interrogation.

l Cinna's death was the one that I cried the most at.

His last act was to fuel the rebellion, and to announce Katniss as the Mockingjay, and he risked his life while (whilst?) doing so.

(I'm not kidding, I just had to take a break from writing this because I was tearing quite heavily...)

This is one of my favourite Hunger Games series quotes:

“It crosses my mind that Cinna's calm and normal demeanor masks a complete madman.”
and also,
“I always channel my emotions into my work. That way, I don't hurt anyone but myself.”

When Cinna was beaten, I knew he was going to die, I had to stop reading the book for a couple of hours to process that (and...er, cry). Cinna is the most inspiring character in the series, he was so passionate, caring, strong and brave.

R.I.P Cinna <3

And also, Prim's death really got me thinking. I didn't really feel sad when she died, just angry and confused.

Katniss went to amazing lengths to keep Primrose healthy and safe throughout the books. Volunteered at the reaping, risked her life and hunted for years.

She was like the rock of the series. No Primrose, no volunteering, no Games, no romance no rebellion. Without her, there would be no story.

So after ALL THAT, three whole books that were made just because Prim was reaped, Suzanne Collins blows her up...by Gale. Of ALL people.

Sure, Collins needed a reason that Katniss couldn't be with Gale, but did she have to kill of PRIM?

THE-WHOLE-BASE-OF-THE-FRICKIN-STORY?!

Gale did not blow her up, that was Coin

Aribug i cried when cinna died and i ddnt read the book at all for the rerst of the day. same thing with finnick

message 14: by Dee (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dee I could be argued that Gale was the cause behind Prim's death - since he and Beetie designed the bombs that killed her

Daniel Dee wrote: "I could be argued that Gale was the cause behind Prim's death - since he and Beetie designed the bombs that killed her"

He had his part in her death, but he did not kill her.

Aribug thank you Dee. i try to tell everyone that it was gale cuz he designed it!!! thank you so much. you just made my day.

Aribug but i do believe that gale did not make the call to drop the bombs

Ashley Guys I'm very truly sorry if I spoiled this for you. I made the same topic in Mockingjay.

Aribug Not for me. I have read them all

Yes, it was Coin, but Gale created the bomb. And Collins sure went to an effort to convince us that it was Gale's fault.

How did she do that? Nobody i know that read it was convinced it was his fault.

I know I held out till that point in Mockingjay that he was still alive somewhere. I just didn't want to believe he was gone.

Elizabeth Day Mags's death was so brave I think I love her for it :(

Ashley Elizabeth wrote: "Mags's death was so brave I think I love her for it :("

Exactly. She was one of my favorite characters. In a way that no one saw, she died for Freedom. She killed herself for Katniss and Peeta

The question posed in the topic subject line was "Cinna's Death And How It Affect The Rest Of The Series"...and when I saw this, I had to ask myself...Did it in fact affect the rest of the series? And the answer is, i think (unfortunately) "No".

Cinna was one of the few characters that the author really managed to bring some kind of significance and dimension to...and then (like elsewhere in the series with other really great characters) she just gave up on them.

As much as I love the series...one of my biggest problems with it is that some deaths are treated respect and some modicum of significance (isn't all live sacred?)...but for the most part, death is treated with an almost "video game" like irrelevance. People get slaughtered at the drop of a hat and everybody just keeps going as if "oh well". In a few places, you can tell the author tried to make the death of someone "meaningful" by having a character refer back to them reverently, but on the whole, it never feels like enough.

Cinna's death (or his supposed death, as we never actually "see" but rather are told about it, which by the way was an awful cheat and a really bad move narratively, but I digress) unfortunately did not affect the series. Death itself does not seem to affect this series. It is a part of this series, but it always seems like death is so rampant and plentiful that it loses all of its meaning and significance to the characters involved.

And maybe, in the end, after all the analysis...maybe that's what it was all about. Endless slaughter, unrelenting massacres...for those who survive, it's almost enough just to live or, rather, exist. if they stop and think about those that they lost and how they lost them...perhaps it would be too much to bear.

For such a popular book/series...it actually possesses a rather dire and pessimistic viewpoint...all the way to the bitter end.

Sigh. I was SO depressed!! like, i loved Cinna! he was AWESOME!! and yes, it did affect the series..but not as much...

Sheila Adams OMG! Was looking for a different thread... I just finished Hunger Games and am starting Catching Fire... and NOW I know Cinna dies! No "spoiler alerts" in discussion titles, I guess. ;)

I'm so sorry about the spoiler you read :(

Sheila Adams It's okay, LOL! My daughter told me about Prim's death while reading (just before the movie was released) simply because she was so upset!! :) It's fine. I mean, given all the death in the first novel, I am not that surprised! :)

Gretchen @ Sheila that's why anymore I don't add a book till it's done. Otherwise there are too many chances that these threads will spoil something.

Arezia Gretchen wrote: "@ Sheila that's why anymore I don't add a book till it's done. Otherwise there are too many chances that these threads will spoil something."

I do the same Gretchen! I had a spoiler of another book because I added it too early. (never made the same mistake since then!)
By the way, I was so upset after Cinna's death... kind of "it couldn't be, it couldn't be!".
My favorite quote from Cinna is "I still bet on you". It was such a touching moment to me!

Hayley I was very upset about Cinna's death. I think it added a lot to the book. I was especially outraged when they beat him right in front of Katniss, and just before the games too! That was a cruel way to send her a message and give her a horrible start to the quarter quell. I was sad though that I never got to feel Cinna's death. Cinna, Finnick, and others don't get the same treatment as say Rue or Prim, who we actually get to mourn. I think it would have added a lot more to the books if we could have more closure about the deaths or something at least! I was sad that Cinna died but I didn't cry or feel anything because of the way his death was presented.

It is about a war, and in war deaths can be random & undeserving people suffer too. At least this is my understanding of it from the people I knew who fought in WW1 and WW2.

Brittany Rouse What? Prim and Finnick dies?! Dammit! I just started Book 3, I thought this thread was about book 2!
