Lauretta Mia I also agree with anna. Harry Potter is not harry potter without Ron. I've always had the sensation that he was always able to take his own revenge every time the things go bad for him.

He kows that hermione kisses krum? he kisses Lavender.( the half blood prince was really funny about that) and he also took his revenge on ginny who has criticised him for his hinexperience with the girls. (Yes, When Ginevra feels cool she shoots pearl of wisdom)
He plays an amazing game with chess. he destronys the horcurx, even better: two horcurxs (Ron found out the way to destroy the other horcurx and open the chamber of the secrets! an amazing idea).
he stays at harry side, saved hermione's life from bellatrix. I wanna say: what else do you want from him? He must also cooking your breakfast?

I agree! I deeply love ron! He's my favourite!

DanielC_C1 Some people say that Ron was always there for harry, and I see why. He was there when Harry and Hermione was in danger at the giant chessboard.
He was there when Harry was trying to figure out the Chamber of Secrets.
He was there when Harry and Sirius were keeping Pettigrew from escaping.
He was there to help Harry figure out the Triwizard Championship.
He was there when Harry was fighting Death Eaters in the Ministry.
He was there when Harry and Dumbledore were just barely arriving to reinforce Hogwarts against the Death Eaters.
And He was there when Harry was drowning in the iced lake for the Sword of Gryffindor.
However, I must state some facts.
He left Harry in the fourth book because he was jealous.
He left Harry in the Sixth book to make out with a girl.
He left Harry in the Seventh book because he was jealous again.

He was 15 years old and the bff of a world famous wizard of course he was going to be jealous if he thought Harry was trying to get even more notoriety.
He was 16, and every 16 year old boy I knew would have left to go make out with a girl.
He had the horcrux on and almost immediately after he left he tried to get back and couldn't.

message 155: by Torrent56 (new)

Torrent56 He left Harry in the fourth book because he was jealous.
Why did he go downstairs in the middle of the night to check on Harry's wellbeing when he was talking with Sirius?

He left Harry in the Sixth book to make out with a girl."
What are you talking about? Even when he had a really clingy girlfriend, he was always there when Harry wanted to talk about anything. However yes I agree his behaviour is appalling. I suspect it could be just an attempt to tear down Ron's relationship to make Hinny look better.

el what Ron really cool. Think what harry without Ron.

message 157: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Chang I don't like him that much but he's my favorite in the Golden Trio

Michael Prentice I don't like Ron much - he's certainly my least favourite of the main trio. Though, well he's not a great friend, he's not a bad friend either. To me, it's just that he has some appalling attributes (how he treats Harry in book 4, and his accusations and then taking off in book 7) and rather obnoxious. I honestly don't quite get what Hermione sees in him, and always thought she could do better.

message 159: by Puneet (new) - rated it 5 stars

Puneet To be honest, Ron Weasley was a wonderful character. He might not be that intriguing and popular amongst the fan. However, he played an excessively important part in the novels and movies. I hate it though as he was never considered that important in the series, unlike Hermione. Even though everyone has their own opinions and think differently, I can't figure out any reasons as to why someone would possibly dislike Ron.

I my opinion ron didn't work hard at all and thats why he was in the shadows. His parents didnt really pressure any of the kids to be like the other. Aleast when the other kids saw a problem about themselves or there life they did something about it. Jinny practiced everyday since a young age by herself to fly and actually studied to become a great witch. The twins know that education wasnt the way they wanted to go and found something else. the three oldest have vastly different fields. Ron was lazy and ungrateful he had a wonderful family and parents that loved him.i would have been more sympathetic if he had work hard to achieve something and wasn't praised for it. He didnt even deserve the prefect title but got some much love and praise for it even through 3 of his brothers did it before him. So i didnt think thats a valid agrument have lots of old siblings dont make you pityable.

Jey wrote: "See, the illusion about friendship is that it comes with no difficulties. Every friendship needs to be worked through- has it's own issues! I agree with Avani... for Ron, who grew up under the shad..."

Friendships yes comes with hardship and not everything is perfect all the time ron showed what not to do as a friend. From book 3 and his dumb fight with Hermione over a rat he hated in the first place. To book 4 with his fight with harry and the goblet. Two times he didnt trust his friends enough to believe that they wouldn't lie and they gave him no reason to doubt. In most importantly in book 7 yes he came bac but the fact he left in the first place. Ron always thinks of himself first. like he is the only person that has something to lose. In every book he find a reason to be mean to Hermione or get mad at harry to being to rich or to popular. Harry wasn't the greatest friend to Hermione but he was more loyal to ron than ron was to him.For people who related to ron might have reflect on those characteristics. Jealousy and friendships never work.
And by the age of 13 people should know how to treat people i also dont think thats a vaild excuse either. Ron was literally so mean to Hermione from the of 11 to 16
My last argument is that harry himeself was overshadowed by the boy how live title . He had alot to live up to and we all know he didnt handle it that well. Harry wasn't all that good in school but when he had his battles he was smart and quick on his feet. But what didnt do was complain about what he was given.

Maria G Oh goodness, I love Ron. I prefer him to Harry in all honesty.

Nilendra Fonseka Michael wrote: "I don't like Ron much - he's certainly my least favourite of the main trio. Though, well he's not a great friend, he's not a bad friend either. To me, it's just that he has some appalling attribute..."

I think Ron was the most human of the three. He was not particularly talented in any field, and was lacking a real identity when compared to everyone else in his family. I sucks that he had that clash with Harry, but no one is perfect. I think the fact that he came to in the end, rather than hanging on to his resentment shows his true character. We can only know how good someone is by their actions!

As to why Hermione ended up with Ron...I think that's pretty easy - opposites attract. Hermoine is a perfectionist, and needs everything to be meticulously planned and maintained. Ron is a bit of a mess, so she's got a lot to work with moving forward! There's a definite ying-yang, for both of them to balance each other out.

message 163: by Morgan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Morgan Blum I never liked Ron because he was straight up a crappy friend. He was jealous, petty, and childish on most occasions. He was also mean to Hermione, and he does a lot of jerky things in The Goblet of Fire. But then didn't J.K. Rowling base Ron on a friend who she specifically described as being a "foul-weather friend?" In other words a friend who is kind of one-sided. That being said, I can't say that Ron was altogether one-sided because he was supportive of Harry at times too. He just also did some really immature things. I feel it is also worth mentioning that even though I am not a fan of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, I thought his personality was much more delightful in that story. Maybe he just needed to grow up.

message 164: by [deleted user] (new)

Who actually liked ron ? Lol to me he was more of a comic relief character that just got boring after a while and instead of scrapping him they kept him around the central characters and dragged the whole story down and provided the main characters with a nuissance that just wouldn’t go away.

message 165: by Reagan (new)

Reagan T ladies we stan Ronald Weasley.

Francesca I don’t care what anyone says, I love Ron. He’s a fantastic friend and a lovely, if flawed (aka realistic), character. And to all the people calling him childish... he is a child! I just hate when people try to act like Hermione and Harry are perfect when they’re not. And that Ron is devil spawn for showing signs of puberty when he isn’t.

Rhi i hate ron he is so dumb and if it went for hermine he would be dead and out of hogwarts.

message 168: by Mikkel104 (last edited Feb 14, 2020 01:51PM) (new)

Mikkel104 I made an account just to write this.

Ignoring everything about his attitude and actions about friendships, his core personality i what makes me hate him so much.

1: His complete disregard for his family's efforts in sending him to school.
The Weasley's are poor, many of the things needed for Hogwarts like books and cauldrons are second hand. Molly and Arthur worked hard to send all their children to school, but what does Ron do? He completely wasted the opportunity granted to him by his family's hardship, and basically treats it like a holiday, without an ounce of gratitude. He chooses the easiest classes, did the minimum amount of work (if he even did it himself) and does absolutely nothing to remedy this or better himself.

2. He wants to reap, but doesn't sow
Ron is full of ambition, having grown up overshadowed by his older brothers, but as I explained earlier does nothing to achieve this. He is not as gifted as others, but it's like he expects to be handed success and accomplishments without putting in any work at all, and then becomes insecure and envious of other people's exploits.

3. He lacks an open mind
Honestly, he is nearly completely dismissive of anything that doesn't fit his worldview and opinions. S.P.E.W and Lupin being a werewolf comes to mind. You could argue about him eventually changing his mind about Lupin, but he never independently attempted to understand or empathize with others. Hermione and Harry wasn't brought up in the wizarding world, and he never tries to understand their worldview. He automatically considers his own superior.

There are many examples of him being an absolute git to other people, inexcusably selfish behavior and no regard for other people's feelings. Couple that with crippling insecurities and his apparent NEED for pity, makes me utterly despise him.

Personally, Ron is one of my favorite characters. He is such a charming character, and I think he deserves more credit.

Amanda Artist Cat Yes! He's been through as much as Harry had! And he always does his best, even if his temper gets the better of him a lot.
Then again, my brother hates Ron most in the trio... But let's not count his opinion

Really? I didn't know Ron's parents were murdered and he was abused by his only living relatives for years. I didn't know that he came face to face with his parents' murderer 6 times. I didn't know he was actually tortured more than once.

message 172: by Tracey (new) - added it

Tracey I think harry and hermione would have got along fine without him. I know he had a few heroic moments like when he sacrificed himself on the chess board and during the flight of the 7 potters when he saved tonks but his moody moments outweighed those heroic moments.when harry's life was in danger during the triwizard tournament he was more bothered about harry entering and not telling him and wouldn't listened to him because he was to stubborn and he didn't think about harry's safety but forgave him when he had done brilliantly. also when he left harry and hermione he was being really selfish and i know he was near a horcrux and that effected him but he was really bad. i also think his relationship with hermione was really forced and i think she was a better match with harry (sorry for spelling and grammatical mistakes)

message 173: by Denise (new) - rated it 4 stars

Denise Goodkey That is interesting. I was just talking to my granddaughter, age nine and a Harry 'expert' ......no kidding...we just got the HP Trivial Pursuit and she can answer at least 95% of the questions which are from the book...not quite so much, but still impressive when it comes to actors and other movie gossip stuff. I thought of telling her, but didn't that I like Ron better than I like Harry. It has been so long since I read the first four or five books in the series, I no longer know why I felt that way. Thanks for the question. A good topic for her and me during coronavirus lockdown.

message 174: by Kate (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kate I see what you are saying, but I love Ron. He was the most relatable of the golden trio, and he overcame his shortcomings and mistakes. Plus, his family is amazing and him and Hermione are the sweetest couple ever!

message 175: by Kate (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kate Sorry, he and Hermione.

Valentine I respectfully disagree, I LOVE Ron Weasley! He is funny and he is just the perfect character for Harry to be friends with and he brings perfect balance in the group.

message 177: by Zendaya (new)

Zendaya I don’t like Ron. He was super annoying and dumb to me lol. And does anyone else think he doesn’t fit into any of the Hogwarts houses??

message 179: by Verte (new)

Verte I don't. I understand, he is a funny, supportive, good friend and so on but he is so whiny. He whines and complains about something all the time, from the book one. And I do not like whiny people, so he annoyed me all the time.
Also, people kept saying that he was like this because he was "overshadowed" by his brothers, then thought it would be different in Hogwarts and went on being "overshadowed" by Harry, see, it's always someone else's fault. If he did not have brothers, he would not have been overshadowed, if there were no Harry Potter, he would not have been overshadowed... Or would have been? Maybe if there were no people left on this planet, he would not have then been overshadowed, and then he'd, at last, shine? It's his own fault that he feels overshadowed or is overshadowed. "He feels bad because his mother wanted a daughter." His mother wanted a daughter when she was pregnant with her other sons also, well, maybe not with the firstborn. She did not want Fred and George, she wanted a daughter, so why don't they whine about being overshadowed all the time? He is just whiny and unpleasant.

James Mason Avani wrote: "Eh... he grew up under the shadow of not one, not two, but five older brothers, and he always harbored the want to be in the spotlight, like everyone has. Being best friends with Harry was the oppo..."

I really don't agree with this, if you judge Ron by his background then you must also judge Harry by his. He most definitely did not have an easy up-bringing and was abused for years and years, Ron never does anything to help Harry by himself and only steps in when others do the same. He wants Harry's fame and to be in the spotlight yet cannot do anything special when he gets what he wants. He never stands by Harry when it is just the two of them and his true nature is shown when he abandons Harry and Hermione on the horcrux hunt. Sure, you can claim that he was under the influence of the horcrux and wanted to protect his family and that he came back shortly after, but the horcrux only encouraged what was already there and his selfishness triumphed over the need to actually do what was needed. All this is forgetting about when he abandoned Harry in the Fourth Year because he was jealous of his fame.

Miss Janelle Of course he was a bit . . . I can't think of words, but maybe unnoticed? He just wants the spotlight for wants, and Harry keeps taking it, so . . . I don't know what you should call him.

message 182: by Amelia (new)

Amelia M I think that Harry and Ron's relationship was shown more in the films, but Ron seems way more jealous in the books. I kind of get why though because he got barely any credit for the chess game where he sacrificed himself for Harry and Harry got all the attention.

message 183: by Teia (new)

Teia Wilson Amelia! I totaly agree w/ you! how did no one even care that Ron sacrificed him self in the giant chess game! Like what people! harry wouldn't even have gotten to defeat voldemort/professer quirill if ron had not done that! it is SO UNFAIR that yall are hateing on him!
