I am currently working on my first novel and was wondering if anyone had any advice on getting publish that does nto involve a boo-coo of money? Every publishing company Ihave looked into wants to charge me like 1000 dollars to help me and that does not include promoting the book itself. PLEASE HELP!! Thanks in advance for any help that you can give me!

Well, I haven't been published, but there's a lot of options. First, I would do some research. Lots of it. Find out the rates everybody charges, etc. Look for small town companies, they shouldn't charge you too much. Second, consider self publishing.
The advertisements on goodreads, if you go to any writers' groups, should say something about publishing, through an agent, whatever.
Third, find every publishing company you can and send a copy of your manuscript and how much you're willing to pay.
Happy Publishing! :D
Search out small and mid-sized independent traditional publishers. They do not charge the author fees and may pay some sort of advance as well as royalties. ForeWord magazine (paper and online at http://www.forewordmagazine.com) reviews books by such publishers and is a good source of info about them.If you self-publish, shop around. There seems to be lots of competition, and you may not really need the "deluxe" package if you're prepared to make your own marketing efforts, esp. on the 'Net and through networking.
I just recently wrote a post on just this subject .. check out....http://write2publish.blogspot.com/200...
Sounds cool. It's nice to have advice from somebody who has been through the whole publishing thing, as many active members of this group are teenagers and unpublished.
Just posted today on my #1 piece of advice - Avoid PublishAmerica. Here is the link....http://write2publish.blogspot.com/200...
yah--well ive looked into publishing and some pple dont charge u money, they make their profit off of the money tht the book itself makes when its being sold at bookstores and places
no ... wait idk why i said that. lol.
but the point is that you spend some money but then you get more money when you sell ... if that makes sense.

The one I looked at was $299 to get it bound, and sold at Borders.com and Amazon.com. If you work through a publishing house they'll put it on shelves and online, rather than just online.
Oh, and then for $499 you could get someone to 'edit' it for you before it's sold and help without layout/design of book--cover and pages and all.
No, it was a 'publish your book through Borders' thingymajig. I was thinking of doing that, then I realized your book doesn't get put on the shelf. That turned me off. I want to see my book on the shelves. :)
Totally could what? You'll make it there, Seth. Your stories are so good! I love the ideas you come up with. :)

Bleh. Whatever. At least you have actually finished something . . . though book proposals might be good :D

Oh, okay. I get it.Yeah, but the thing I finished is nowhere NEAR ready to be published. I'm never getting it published. This one ... yeah. I'd LOVE to see it on shelves. Or just on my shelf even. Printed. *fantasizes*
What do you mean 'Whatever'? Your stories are great! I love them!
i want to see one of my books on the shelves someday ... but starting off w/self-publishing is fine w/me. i figured it would be a good way to start off, and then i can work my way up to real-publishing.

I think I was talking about Finding My Father. I didn't finish Reawakened Soul until a few months ago. I'm trying to get that published.
okay, that makes much more sense. :D lol
Yeah, I DEFINITELY want Reawakened Soul published. I don't mean to sound conceited, but I ♥ Reawakened Soul! I loved writing it, and I love reading it. :)
I love it too! You've got the suspense thing down!!
