message 57: by Sanjay (new)

Sanjay | 1 comments I have recently finished The Seige of Nagas - the 2nd of the Amish Mishra trilogy on Shiva. I think the editing is far better compared to Immortals of Meluha.I picked up the first book due to the cover and because most Indians would be intrigued by a novel on one of the gods. However, I found the language a little stilted. Also, somehow it doesn't feel comfortable to hear Shiva utter words like "heck". There's too much effort to contemporize an essentially ancient tale / society. On the whole, I was a little dissappointed. I would rate it 2* - mostly for the effort.
Amitav Ghosh's 'River of Smoke' was a reading pleasure. The only drawback for me was the author sometimes got carried away with showcasing his research. The internal propulsion of the plot was lacking in the first half but picked up in the second part.Overall, I would rate it 3.5*

Most people in India seem to be raving about this trilogy. I contemplated picking it up but frankly, the reviews aren't good enough to make me wanna read it.

I'm thinking about reading it too since I heard its being turned into a film by Karan Johar and all. And that's quite a big thing for India, isn't it? Considering same happened with some book by Chetan Bhagat and 3 idiots but seriously Nagas sound more interesting and it has been more popular with those who love to read instead of those who read Chetan Bhagat to find what this trash is about or since other books are too sophisticated for them.

Smita (SmitaIndia) | 5 comments i dont know but this shiva triology was too serious for me. i wish it had me humour to keep me engaged. i have the second book. its damn boring. i better go back to rick riordan world.

Nazia (naziasiddiqua) | 11 comments Okay, so I started "Lola and The Boy Next Door" by Stephanie Perkins two weeks back. I don't want to abandon reading it, but I can't get myself to pick up the book either. Having enjoyed "Anna and the French Kiss" immensely, I expected this book to be good, but so far it's been kind of blah. :(
