I just thought I would share this
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/o...

I thought it looked cool for all you avid gamers out there.
If your tired of microsoft choking the xbox world for all the cash they have got, I think heres the solution, and you like independent designers and open source.
Might bring back the creativity to console gaming for all the designers who cant afford to create games for the xbox.

Jon | 91 comments It looks interesting, but if I did invest in one, it would only be as a replacement media server. I think it's only going to appeal to the hobbist, specialist crowd, most of the mainstream are mainly going to be chasing high profile franchises such as Cod and Gears.

Ye im just a big sucker for open source stuff. Power to the people lol. I hope it catches on though would like to see more indie and independent game designers getting a platform were they can afford to make their games. I think more and more people are looking to these types of games though, away from the endless franchises and first person shooters.

Jon | 91 comments Don't get me wrong, indie's are great, but to achieve mainstream penetration I think they're going to have to go via steam or Ios.
I agree completely, you only have to look at the success enjoyed by things like 10 million or Sword and Sorcery to see that people are looking for something different.
Trying not to be a skeptic, but I wonder if the Ouya would have been as popular if we were not so late in the console cycle?

You can buy a lot of these games on steam already, that actually would be the place I would go for them, little cool free or cheap games for messing around on, but I know what you mean in the sense will it take off, because you can get all these kind of games on the pc already, and the app games you can get on your phone, but I still thinks its a cool idea, but your right probably would become more of a niche product.

Drew | 1 comments I think the Ouya is nothing special. It promises a lot but we'll see what is actually delivered. I also like open source concepts. But if it were truly open source, they would have already released the consoles hardware and software design instead of promising "We’ll even publish the hardware design if people want it." Just because it's based on android doesn't make the software open source.

"You want our hardware design? Let us know. We might just give it to you. Surprise us!"

Might? We already have an open source video game console called a PC. Use whatever programming language you like, even android as they do, and make a game. Then release the open source code.

I think that all this manufactured hype over kickstarter is the only reason anyone knows about the Ouya. In my opinion kickstarter is a huge scam.

Whoever is backing the site is just trying to popularize another way to skim money from startups that would be better off raising money on their own.

The majority of the successful kickstarters you hear about in the news either don't get produced as promised, or are new ventures from already established content creators.

Sorry for ranting but the whole concept of kickstarter really irks me. :/
