Michael Ward | 5 comments I am trying to publish my ebooks abroad. How do I get a digital ISBN for them? I already have Amazon ASIN numbers for each book but when I gave those to the company abroad they told me they were expecting the digital ISBN to be 13 numbers and not 12 numbers. How can I get digital ISBNs for my books and are these free or do I have to pay for them?

Hi Hayes

Are you saying by this post "just look on the internet" because if you are I already did that and I am not finding any real useful information about how to get a digital ISBN. What I am finding is a lot of sites where people want me to pay them money so if you know anything about how to get a digital ISBN please let me know.

Thanks

Michael Ward

No, Mike. Sorry, perhaps I was too cryptic. The page I linked to talks about Internet etiquette and using capital letters, which is considered shouting.

I would have then suggested ISBN.org, which I found by typing "how do I get a digital ISBN" into my search engine.

Edit to Add: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internat...

According to the wikipedia article the number is free in Canada, but must be paid for in the US and in the UK.

Hi Hayes

Thanks for your help. At work in most companies I have worked for we use capitals in the email header and then lower case in the actual body of the email which is what I did so my post actually wasn't in capitals. That's standard in the United States.

I'll try the digital ISBN site you mentioned. At the moment I am in a situation where the foreign company has several of my books ready to go but they told me last night they can't publish without a digital ISBN.

Thanks for your help and good luck in Rome.

I have never seen that, and I live in the US. He is right, Caps is considering yelling in the US.

Okay. I'm from England originally and moved to the US. I apologize if I have upset anybody inadvertently. All I was trying to do was to get some help on digital ISBNs. I will learn from both your replies.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments Did the wiki link get you the help you needed Michael?

(Librarians ... LOL ... with the capitalization and punctuation. Actually, depending on what email software you are used to using -- both of y'all are correct. Some email programs do always ALL CAPS the subject; mostly not AOL or Outlook or Eudora based ones. It's leftover from the subject line starting with "RE:" on BBS systems and physical memos)
