Erica From my debut novel, The Ritual (yes, I know it's two lines, sorry):

Concentrate, steady, stay relaxed. My mantra ran through my head in a constant litany, more out of habit than out of a real need to focus on the words.

From the sequel, The Conspiracy (out soon):

The knife handle rested in my slightly sweaty palm, and I shifted my grip so it felt more comfortable, though I remained in my low crouch and never took my eyes off my opponent.

For a second I thought those were the beginning of one book, which was intriguing. Is it going to be surreal? Very complex plot that would make all that make sense? I love it. (except for the verb agreement thing)
