Hey Leigh I apologize for the tardiness but usually on the challenge partners get to the 5th of the month to chose for there partner has there been any changes?

message 156: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) Hi Brittany! Again, apologies for the delay. I forgot I'd be away for the last 11days so I wouldn't be here when I got a partner.

I already messaged you but for public knowledge I've picked The Darkest Night for Brittany :)

message 157: by Camilla (last edited Sep 02, 2012 09:01AM) (new)

Camilla (cyqua) I just finished my 1. pick of the month: Dead Until Dark :-)

I give it a 3½ star rating - I really liked it, but I think because I knew the story (from the show) and knew the "answer" to the mystery, it wasn't as powerful/new as it otherwise would have been...
Here's my "full" review (I don't write a lot): http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

But I will definitely be reading more about Sookie, so thank you Athena-Nadine, for finally getting me started on this series! :-)

Camilla, I had the opposite problem. I read the series expecting the HBO series to follow the same line and it didn't. If you watch the series and then read the books, you will find the books tame.

Really? That's a shame, because I do really like the world and the characters... I'm hoping that the (supposed) difference in story lines (between the books and the show) will be enough to keep me interested :-)

But I can imagine having read the books and then being a bit flabbergasted at what they've ended up with on the show! :-)

I think they can both be appreciated for what they are. I still love the books!

message 163: by Carina (new)

Carina | 258 comments Candy - finished the book you picked for me thanks :D

Interesting read, I half expected it to be a lot like the majority of the (so-called) vampire 'novels' being mass produded. However this one kept the "vampires are nasty creatures' vibe that so many now a days tend to forego. I would be interested in reading more of the series so many thanks for picking it for me!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

The first season of True Blood was pretty close to the book. The second season started veering off, but you could still see it was based on the book. Each season, though, the show has gotten farther and farther from the books. This season it has almost nothing in common with them except for the names of some of the characters.

For me, the only way I can enjoy both is to treat them as completely different stories. Otherwise, I find myself yelling at my TV screen. lol

Thanks Ashley, I like both your choices and was very intrigued by the idea of Next by Michael Crichton whom I have read from before. It is a unique story line so I am excited to read something a little different.
I really like Contagious as well and the reviews for that one are excellent (mostly 5 stars!) so it is a hard choice. I have to see which one I can pick up on Kobo. Hopefully both!
I hope you are happy with the choice that I suggested for you. Did you want another pick so you have more than one to choose from? I would be happy to look further for you.I would actually suggest Michael Crichton's other book Prey by Michael Crichton for you as it is along the lines of the sci-fi stories you like.

NayNay I finished my book that Lisa picked for me, Firefly Lane.

I gave it 3 stars....It was a nice story of a life-long friendship, it was okay nothing earth shattering. For me the character's were not real, and the story was predictable.

Janis (janispr80) | 75 comments I've finished my book Strange Angels (Strange Angels, #1) by Lili St. Crow .

I gave the book 4 stars. I really enjoyed the story and felt for Dru and what she was going through. I did find it hard to picture some of the book, I thought it could have been more descriptive however I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Thanks for picking for me Mallory!

Marilyn (marilynmalloy) Tammy,

I REALLY enjoyed the American Heiress, http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/99... I found it a nice easy read, with many similarities to Downton Abbey (a show I LOVE).

message 187: by *Angela* (new)

*Angela* | 134 comments Alyssia let me choose between a couple of books and I went with
Deception (Fey Court Trilogy #1) by Cyndi Goodgame

I finished what I could of it and rated it 2 stars. The story was intriguing and had potential, but I couldn't get past the editing issues. Too many exclamation points and changing from 1st to 3rd person in mid-paragraph...Others have rated it much higher, so I guess it was just me!

message 188: by Cindy (new)
