Stephen M wrote: "Ya'll should do it! We could the entire gang here to participate."I vote you recreate the picture where DFW is simultaneously shielding the young woman's modesty and protecting her from sunburned tits.

Will do!
Moira wrote: "I vote you recreate the picture where DFW is simultaneously shielding the young woman's modesty and protecting her from sunburned tits."I just saw that!
Thank you, Stephen! I mistakenly somehow thought it was a picture of *DFW* protecting someone from sunburn...and he, ah, he was known to, ah, be charming with female grad students, so I thought...ah...yeah. Right. Got it. On board now.

Perhaps there can be two schedules: the one starting in December (especially for those also participating in 2013: The Year of Proust) can be 3 months long (less pages per week), and the one starting in January can be for two months; both finish by March. Just a thought. :)

I'm going to try to draw up those schedules in the next few days, and I'll get some feedback on how manageable they seem. Thanks so much!
Marieke wrote: "is anyone planning to read the new biography that is about to come out?"Yes! Definitely.
okay, goody! speaking of bios, my giant Proust bio just arrived at my library branch for pickup...but i need to finish my giant Patricia Highsmith bio before i start it.
I want to read that Patricia Highsmith bio....And I just got my copy of the giant Proust bio - huge used paperback, staring at me from amidst my piles (yes, plural) of Proust.

We can set up a thread here to discuss the DFW bio if folks are interested.
LOL. Love that one. Thanks.Marieke wrote: "Aloha wrote: "238 posts to catch up on! Geesh. If there's a post that's really important, let me know. LOL."

There's a Proust discussion coming up? I'm in. I've been wanting to tackle his work.Danielle wrote: "Perhaps there can be two schedules: the one starting in December (especially for those also participating in 2013: The Year of Proust) can be 3 months long (less pages per week), and the one starti..."
i want to buy my own copy of the HIghsmith bio. and i'll likely do the same with the Proust bio. but i just bought the six-pack ISOLT and the Paintings in Proust, so i thought i should take a stab with the library for others before buying ALL OF THEM (because i would totally do that.) Now i need special shelves.
I'm interested in the Proust and DFW bio. Geesh, we don't even need to use the adjective "huge." Let's just assume that we've entered the world of the giant books.

:)
Aloha, you have to check out the shelves with auxiliary readings in the Proust group. So many wonderful recommendations.

I need to go join the group. I guess I'll find it via your profile, Kris. Thanks.Kris wrote: "Aloha, you have to check out the shelves with auxiliary readings in the Proust group. So many wonderful recommendations."
I think I jus pasted the link into one of the comments here somewhere....Here it is again, in case I went crazy:

Thanks Nathan - Proustitute just wrote and said the same thing to me.
I was going to ask the same question. I scanned Amazon, and there were several bios.Proustitute wrote: "@Marieke and Kris

Yes, Carter. It looks great. It and Paintings in Proust are at the top of my auxiliary/preliminary readings list too.
And it's always a pleasure to discuss Proust -- no highjacking involved. :)

hey, it's general chit-chat thread! we can totally talk about Proust here. heh-heh.
Yes, i'm talking the Carter bio. i'm assuming Kris is too, but i could be wrong.
Thanks, Proustitute. Can I just call you Proust? LOL. I added it. Yep. Another tome.Proustitute wrote: "Aloha: it would be this one which seems to be the new definitive bio."
Marieke wrote: "i really do love giant books."Me too. Nothing better than a bigger, longer book than the last book you read. ; ) Honestly, if they are "good" books, better yet, "great" ones, why avoid them solely on the basis of length? I've never understood people's attitude, those who shy away from them, just because of the page count.
I'm working on some different options for recommended reading schedules: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1... Any feedback appreciated!
I have a new folder up for discussion of supplemental readings. The first thread is for Every Love Story Is a Ghost Story: A Life of David Foster Wallace, but please feel free to create new threads to discuss other books by DFW, or books about IJ, or anything else that you'd like to discuss with other group members.
