Did It capture my attention at the onset, sure, but that attention was Jordan's to lose and he did. All his world building was squandered.
Our experiences don't need to match - but that doesn't mean I should be barred from thinking it was awful. These books weren't just run of the mill time wasters, they changed my reading habits. I learned to leave a bad book unfinished with book 9 instead of sticking it out on benefit of doubt. My first instinct when I see anything about wheel of time is to say that the best thing written with Jordan's name on it was an obit.
So there it is. Civility aside, these books were a terrible experience for me.

I simply responded in kind.
If someone calls something terrible, they are expressing an opinion. When you swoop in to tell people how tired you are of hearing that opinion, you're making a very pointed statement about how you view people who see things differently than you.
That's on you.

That lack of appreciation is not the same as ad hominem attack. A personal attack would be more analogous to the obit line.
Trust me Vaughn, if I was attacking you, you'd know.

Vaughn, the series isn't "DIFFERENT" if you describe it as Lord of the Rings for people who don't like Lord of the Rings. At that point, it becomes an adaptation, not a singular vision of a unique author. Also, you are tending to gloss over the later volumes of the series (I have already denoted them earlier in the thread).
Also, reporting people on Goodreads has all of the effect of pissing in the ocean to spite the fish. I was reported by someone who I absolutely attacked in response to his attacking me, and nothing happened. I reported him and got a polite "please just stop talking to him" in response.
Asher, this series isn't terrible. Twilight is terrible. Many of the books from D&D are terrible (or, if you prefer, absolutely awful... I'm looking at you, Troy Denning and your endless use of "damson" and "murk"). Wheel of Time is just uneven.
Just my 2¢.

I still contend that the series is much worse than uneven, hence the obituary line that Vaughn so loved. A bad book is committed to its own failings at the onset, but a book with squandered potential is much worse in my mind.
Otherwise, solid points Bill. I will steer clear of Denning going forward.
