I found it a very different book to the other two, and sometimes found it hard to visualise what was being told but I still loved the book.
Like I often say about trilogies, for me I don't view them as 3 separate books but one whole story.

It was about war and death.
The reason Mockingjay disappointed me was that I had so many unanswered questions.
What happened to Gale? We know he moved to Two, but did he ever get in contact with Katniss? Did he marry? have children? Die?
How's Haymitch doing? Still got the geese? Is he dead or something? Does he like their little munchkins?
Did Katniss visit Johanna, Annie, her mother, Beetee after the war?
We were left wondering about the rest of the characters, other than Katniss and Peeta.
It also seemed very rushed. "Peeta and I grew back together." -_______- Cool, Katniss.
Was it soon? Was it romantic?
Collins didn't EXPLAIN.

I disliked it for the most part because:
A) Katniss passes out so much that it's unrealistic.
B) I hated how an important character would die and Katniss rarely reflected on any of them. (Hey, I'm going to kill this somewhat important character (BAM! Sorry!) and Katniss never mourns or thinks about them, nor do they ever get discussed again. )
C) Just seemed VERY rushed. Particularly at the end.
D) I like that it ended on a happier note but since book one, Katniss has been assuring us that she never wants a husband and kids. Just seems a little unrealistic. I could handle one or the other, but both makes me think it's rather strange.
Maybe that's the point--showing how she changed after the war or whatever, but if it was, well, it fell a bit flat. Instead, it felt like the author just randomly wasn't sure how to end it and was like "Oh let's add that Katniss ends up with Peeta and they have two kids!"
E) I won't get into the plot holes.
All and all, I rated it 3. I liked it but at the same time I wanted to throw it against the wall. It seemed like a very rushed book to wrap things up. I loved the first two. There are parts I really liked about Mockingjay, but overall it disappointed me.
I loved some of the new characters and some of the plot, but it wasn't enough. Also, CINNA :'-(
These are just my thoughts. :-)

i know right! its like suzanne decided to stop and just wrap things up. it was like BANG he is dead. BANG there dead. BANG all the people they love is dead.and BANG gale left katniss BANG now she goes to peeta. then BANG happy ending. *shaking head*

That would be very interesting. I'd like to read that! Good idea!

You simply can't hold deaths such as Finnick's against Collins - it is a novel about a revolution, people (both good and bad) are going to die. If anything, the harsh reality of the way these characters met their end made me enjoy the series more. You become attached to these characters, you fight these battles with them, and you feel the loss after they've gone.

The first time I read it I absolutely hated the ending and pretty much went on a rampage. I hated the fact that Prim died, that Katniss voted for a new Capitol Hunger Games, that she got with Peeta (I love him but I was firmly Team Gale) and that the ending just seemed so... Depressing and mundane. I expected Katniss to go on to do bigger and better things. After rereading it, I really love Mockingay, thankfully. I was probably just blindsided by the shock of it all.

I enjoyed the ending but I did find it emotionally draining. I lost it when I read about Prim. But the ending fits the style of the the entire series. I also think real love isn't just the mush and goo but about finding what/who you need in your life. So I found the end with Peta very satisfying.

Mockingjay was more a book I kept on reading just to find out in the end. Even if I just kept going on to find out the end it's better than reading the end on the internet. Mockingjay kept the good base but the war was too gruesome. Pain and fear are some common feelings in the Hunger Gmaes series but when using such a base she did not take it out of hand during the first 2 books. Then during Mockingjay it's just a bloody war! Deathly Hallows kept that sense of friendship and loyalty which is the base of most of the stories. Mockingjay had the base but when buliding up from it it was centered around the war. A war is long and so when Katniss seemes rushed when explaining deaths, the fear and the anger the impact is weak.

more creative, and more explained.
but its still one of my favorite books .

exactly though i still like the book too i felt sad that so many of my favourite characers died it was so ABRUPT you know?

I didn't particularly mind that a lot of people died, but it seems like there wasn't much mourning.
#2 I hated the way she wrote Gale in the last book. I think packing off and leaving Katniss just seemed out of character. I always hated the love triangle aspects in the book, but I still thing that Gale would have taken the time to say good bye.
I also think Peeta was kind of out of character as well. Or at least Peeta behave in a way that wouldn't make me want to spend my life with him.
#3 I have a really hard time believing that Peeta and Katniss can get married and live happily ever after. I think what happened to them both in the arena and during the war depicted in Mockingjay that both of them are just too broken to ride off into the sunset of a happy ending.
Collins went there as far as killing off a lot of main characters, but I think the happy ending didn't ring true and tried too hard to force it. I would have been happier if Katniss ended the story unhappy and messed up.

Other thing that I didn't like was when Katniss was recovering in the president's house (because it was the better place right? they couldn't find a hospital or something) and she spoke to him, how could she even speak to him?!, President Coin was smart, but she wasn't thinking that if she let them be together, they might speak and maybe something bad could happen after that?!
I loved Catching Fire, but I think that many of the things that characters do in Mockingjay doesn't seem realistic, that kind of things seemed to me just like excuses to add more dramma, and in my personal opinion Suzanne Collins should have taken her time to write this book and give to this saga the ending it deserved.
I get all that. But it's a book, a story, a piece of fiction and at the end you're supposed to smile a little and feel fulfilled, like you didn't stick with the series for nothing. And at the end of Mockingjay I did not feel that. I was just like, "okay....and she went through so much just to end up like that. Settling for Peeta, yay?"
Estefania wrote: "I'm ok with realistic endings, I don't really mind for Prim's death, in fact I think there should have been more deaths, what I did not like was the way everything happened, I mean, there was Katni..."
Yep, you're so right. Mockingjay felt so rushed and overdone. Mockinjay was not the ending we needed, not even the one we deserved.

is that a spoiler?

You saw nothing...step away from the computer and forget this ever happened.

BTW: You Know Who should not have died. Too good of a character, not cool Collins, not cool.
for me it was because mockingjay went against everything the series and katniss had been fighting for since the beginning. mockingjay was full of half formed plots, senseless violence for the sake of publicity, and actions by characters that just did not fit with their previously established personality. for instance, katniss's choice to hold another hunger games was done out of malice, something i had thought katniss was above. finnick's death was senseless and, in my mind, just done so Collins could rack up a few tears. the entire trek into the capitol and the ads katniss does were superficial and embarrassing. to summarize, i hated this book because to me it felt like a cheap ending. this series started out SO good and it deserved the best ending possible and instead it got a cookie cutter ending in the hopes of bringing in cash. this book didn't make me sad or happy or heart broken. i was disappointed and embarrassed for Collins.

Well, said... those are pretty much my exact feelings about Mockingjay. :)

WONDERFUL explanation. THANK YOU. you said what i couldn't say.

I hate Katniss because she's such a weak character in this book and does nothing to make me feel for her, relate to her, or like her, so there's nothing that's keeping me wishing she would stay alive. Honestly, I kinda wish Peeta would have killed that self-centered girl!
It was also probably the worst epilogue I have ever read. I just didn't feel like a...best selling novel should. When I go and pick up a best selling novel off of the table labeled as such, I expect a book that feels polished and the words jump off the page and rock my world. This made me want to end my world myself.
'Nuff said.
