Oh, no, I was just looking at an earlier post a page back and didn't realise someone had already linked it, didn't read the next page of posts, don't mind me, just a month behind is all, LOL!!

If you browse this thread and any of the various others Rachael you'll find lots of ideas :) Enjoy and happy reading!

I also read Pamela Hart The Solider's Wife last year and thought it was such a great story, and with so much detail.

I'm hoping some of you will help me with some recommendations. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated! I'm going for a two week visit to Tasmania in September, and would love some ideas for books by Tassie authors, books set in Tassie or great bookshops to visit in Devonport, Launceston or Hobart. Thanks in anticipation.
We have some lovely Tassie members Sandy, as well as Elaine who went to Tassie recently and loved it. There are a number of books written by and about so you'll be spoiled for choice :)
Good luck and have a fabulous holiday when you go :)

Your'e welcome :)

Thanks, Marlin. I had a look, and it sounds very interesting. I've added it to my list. Can't wait to read it.
G.J. Walker-Smith's Wishes series are set in Tasmania (as well as other places) The first is Saving Wishes - where she has set it is by the ocean in Tassy and really authentic :)

Thanks, Brenda. This one certainly has mixed reviews! It might be fun to read it to see which side I come down on. Thanks for the recommendation. I made a point of finishing the last of my June Juggling books today so that I can get started on the Tasmania recommendations. What a great group Aussie Readers is.
I hope you enjoy your varied Tassy reading Sandy :) This one I just recommended is YA; I've enjoyed every single one in the series I've read so far!

I've read and enjoyed a lot of YA over the years. I was in the habit of having my students choose books for me, and always found much to love in the YA novels. I'll certainly read Saving Wishes.

Yes - I was trying to remember which book I'd read recently had been set in Tasmania and that was it! Others I've read, but not recently, are Family Secrets by Liz Byrski and Poet's Cottage by Josephine Pennicott.

Do you know what? With all of these fantastic recommendations, I'd better cancel my Tassie trip so I'll have more time to read. :^)
Thanks, Kathryn. Incidentally, I clicked on your profile, and we have the same birthday - Aug 13. I'll try to remember to wish you a happy birthday.

Ooh, no, don't cancel - that's the best part!! And if you see the things you've been reading about, then that's even better!
And it's nice to get a weekend day for our birthday this year and next, Sandy! Hope you have a great day in a couple of months!

Poppy Gee is a Tassie author of Bay of Fires and enjoyed it very much. Thanks for the heads up, Brenda!

My comment got a bit burbled somehow. I was trying to thank you, Brenda, for the recommendation of Past the Shallows. I finished it last night and enjoyed it a lot. Sad but lovely book.

Hey! I already have The Book Theif. I didn't know he was an Aussie author!
Yes! Now I've got another book I can include in the next challenge, perhaps. =o)
You should check out the Aussie authors on the group's bookshelf Owl (top right hand side of any page) - it is literally filled with only AAs :)

Worse Things Happen at Sea
Jackson's Track
The Rosie Project
Fatal Storm: The Inside Story of the Tragic Sydney-Hobart Race
Over My Tracks
My Place
Four Fires
Happy Reading - Lea Davey
My Place would fit into the Classics challenge in the Australian Women Writers group as well Lea thanks!

I have that on my list but had no idea she was the daughter of Anne Deveson, who apparently died three days after Georgia Blain. Anne was a very public figure and fought hard for more understanding for schizophrenia after losing her son Jonathon (overdose).
That poor family.

I think I may even have read that column, Merv - had no idea of the family connection (or the illness, obviously). I look forward to the book even more now.
