From his photo I'm going to guess it's also a fake birth date.

Also, I've seen a few of the Sonny/Ais comments before, but I wasn't sure what to do with this one. Easiest solution? Let rivka deal with it. ;)

That is a fair bet, but I'm not certain that there are strict rules about birth dates. It is silly using duff data like that. It just makes me think that some authors are childish and need their legs broken. Or wrists slapped.

::passing banjo a cup of decaf::

Humph. Dedication doesn't bring the rewards it used to. Decaf? Yuk!
Seriously though, some of the tweaks we are posting here for Rivka to fix could be avoided if new Goodreads Authors were told to either use NO birth dates or CORRECT ones and don't use death dates because they are not dead and don't have multiple names on the same profile. Maybe they are told that. Fixing these things is presumably easy but finding them can be a bit hit and miss.

Does anything even need to be said?

Also, what should be done with Goodreads authors who have no books on their profile? And I'm not talking about the accidental misspellings, or intentional vandalizations.

http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/... (profile for author's full name, where she's a GR member)
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/... (profile for author's nickname to which some of her works are credited)

I know. It makes me wonder how they prove to Goodreads that they ARE an author in the first place.

Those are the usual ways that happens, but post here and I'll take a look.

Not exactly. It should be A&E Kirk, but we have a display issue at the moment with the & character. Should be fixed shortly, and then I can edit the profile back (or they will).

Another way that I've noticed recently seems to be that after (or even before) becoming a Goodreads Author they just don't bother adding (or asking for US to add) their books.
This chappie (joined Dec 2011)
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...
has one book on his website (published Dec 2011)
http://www.dandrewsbishop.com/
No sign of anything like that on GR or any misspellings. Just not there.
There are plenty more authors like that. How about requiring a new GR author to have some sort of publication on GR before they can become a GR author? Even if only a placeholder for a book. At the moment the ONLY purpose that an author page like the one above serves is to allow him to have a link to HIS site where he can sell the book (via Amazon in this case).

Lord, researching these authors is making me have to many tabs open! I'm getting lost.

Re 937: I am not going to discuss GR current or past policies on adding authors to the program. I do see a simple fix in this case, though . . .

Why?
Why?

Can't use info from those sites either.

But that's exactly my point. I scavenged most of the info from around the web, on sites that are not directly linked to booksellers. I'll see if I can find a single source.
ETA: Her profile image on twitter shows the covers of her books. You can just make out the author name. https://si0.twimg.com/profile_images/...

I could add it quite quickly, but maybe there is an easier way?

Sounds like some misguided librarian may have deleted it. I would just go ahead and add it back, maybe with a Note.

Pausing for a brief quake in ones underwear, the book is added.
