Ethan (platypopper) | 3658 comments okay everyone, i am deadly serious here.(puts on serious face) is anyone else as psyched about the hobbit as i am? i have watched the trailer about a million times, just so that i could listen to under misty mountain cold. what are you guys's thoughts on the movie?

message 2: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) Oh my gosh, words actually can't express how excited I am. At all.
However, I'm a little sad that it's going to be a trilogy. I don't know, but three movies for a three hundred page book seems excessive to me.

But Martin Freeman as Bilbo is perfect, and I'm still really looking forward to it.

message 3: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 5 comments The Hobbit makes me want to read all the books and I'm totally going to see it!

message 4: by Ethan (new)

Ethan (platypopper) | 3658 comments i htought that it was just a two part movie, the hobbit and an unexpected journey?

message 5: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) No, Peter Jackson has expanded it into a trilogy.

message 6: by Ethan (new)

Ethan (platypopper) | 3658 comments WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!! THREE MOVIES OF EPIC AWESOMENESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

message 7: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) To be honest, I think three movies is a bit too much.

message 8: by Ethan (new)

Ethan (platypopper) | 3658 comments but still, if anyone can pull it off, it's peter jackson.

message 14: by J.Y. (new)

J.Y. | 5 comments I've had a note on my calendar since the Hobbit movie was announced: in November, re-read The Hobbit. And btw, if anyone hasn't already watched them, you should watch the Hobbit video blogs. Very informative and fun.

message 15: by Ethan (new)

Ethan (platypopper) | 3658 comments Okay, I'll try to check them out.

message 16: by Elevetha (new)

Elevetha | 11058 comments IT WAS AGIDSKBSIKHFSKNSHABLDAGBUFISBEKNFNFOSHFSDLK!!!!!

Martin and Richard were amazing!!

I LOVED when Richard sang "Misty Mountains Cold". Shivers. Seriously. Shivers.

EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL.

The end: Hey, look! Erebor!! That was closer than we thought it would be...

*In reality*

two movies/two years and heartbreak later

Nope. No dibs on Kili. 'Tisn't allowed. There would be far too many deaths involved.

message 23: by Elevetha (last edited Jan 13, 2013 07:45PM) (new)

Elevetha | 11058 comments You know what? You can have Kili. Thorin's mine. *my precious* But either way, some crazy Kili-loving fangirl will hunt you down and take him for her own.

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
I was a little disappointed. It wasn't bad per se, but it just felt bland. It definitely doesnt need to be a trilogy.

message 25: by Elevetha (new)

Elevetha | 11058 comments Huh?

message 26: by Ethan (new)

Ethan (platypopper) | 3658 comments everyone, my sister has high dibbs on Kili, and I should warn you that she has a double-kai black belt in tae kwon do.

message 27: by Elevetha (new)

Elevetha | 11058 comments Whatever. I have a sonic. I can take her.

message 28: by James (new)

James (theadventurousbookreader) I really feel like a triolgy for The Hobbit is a not a good idea. The book is like three hundred page long or something like that. I think two should be the limit for The Hobbit films. What do you think about that?

message 29: by Elevetha (new)

Elevetha | 11058 comments You know, I think 3 works really well because they aren't just using information from the Hobbit itself. They are using backstory and TONS of information and scenes from the Appendixes and The Silmarillion. So yeah. 3 is perfect.

message 30: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 06, 2013 03:04PM) (new)

I have not seen the Hobbit yet due to parents who say it was terrible. The whole Goodreads world tells me otherwise, so I am itching to see it. Hopefully they will rent the movie on Redbox as soon as it gets off the theatres.

However, I have seen all the pictures of the actors and what they looked like in the movie and I have to say that the dwarves are just too handsome to be dwarves. I mean, look at Kili! That isn't a dwarf.

message 31: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (BrittyJC) | 1236 comments I took a test about the Hobbit

Your result for Which Dwarf from The Hobbit are you? ...
Fili
47% Extroversion, 78% Intuition, 53% Attachment and 47% Organisation!

Congratulations, you are most like FILI, elder brother to Kili and nephew to Thorin Oakenshield, and a member of the royal line of Durin. Fili and his brother set out with little idea of what lay ahead of them, hungering for adventure. You tend to get easily bored by repetitive and mundane tasks and are therefore eager to seek out new experiences. A strong individualistic streak implores you to experience significant events and meet new people yourself, rather than living through the recounts of others. Personal freedom and the ability to follow where-ever inspiration leads is of great importance to you. You have a contagious enthusiasm about the causes you invest yourself in, which are usually orientated around enhancement of good for humanity, or advancement of humanitarian and social issues.

You are cheerful, energetic, and outgoing. When sharing your views you become very animated and use your wit, humour and skilled mastery of language to communicate effectively and win over your peers. You have good people skills with an adept intuition of other people’s emotions, able to read what’s hidden and see significance in their actions. These qualities are attractive to others and they enjoy being in your company. Imaginative and original, you love focusing on new ideas and new potentials, and have a wide range in interests. The pursuit of happiness is of high priority to you, for both yourself and others.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Hotness of Dwarves.

REALLY?! What didn't your parents like? Were they bored? Are they purists who wanted an exact copy of the book in movie form?(I know someone like that)

They are purists. I used to be one as well but now I am not. :(

message 35: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (BrittyJC) | 1236 comments You have to see it Cat! It's amazing!

message 36: by Deb (new)

Deb Brewer | 4 comments I went and saw the movie with my boyfriend and was impressed I didn't read the book but my boyfriend did and said that it was put together well that it felt like some of the scenes in the movie were pulled right out of his head, that that's exactly how he imagined it while he was reading the book. I read the The Lord of The Rings books and was so disappointing in the movies they were butchered horribly. My parents bought the extended versions of the movies and that was a little better, but it still was disappointing.

message 37: by Deb (new)

Deb Brewer | 4 comments Cat,
Go see it, I think everyone has to see a movie themselves to know if its good or bad. I cant tell you how many times I didn't go see a movie cause someone said it wasn't any good and then later down the road I end up seeing it at a friends house or something and liking the movie.

message 38: by Ethan (new)

Ethan (platypopper) | 3658 comments Yeah, i agree with Deb. If you can, go and see the movie, and then form your own opinion on it. I personally thought that it was really good.

The film is not called The Silmarillion, its called The Hobbit.

Yeah, I know. But, as much as they are using the majority of the story and such from the Hobbit, they are also using some information and history given in the Silmarillion. Also, the Appendixes....

So, yes. It's the Hobbit. The main story of the film is the Hobbit. The name of the film is the Hobbit... but they are including information from other books to enrichen the experience and knowledge of the viewers.
