Very.

Carina had mentioned ebook signings. I never knew how that sort of thing could be possible. Pretty sweet.

Emanuela ~plastic duck~ (manutwo) | 1768 comments It's very cool. I could also be all giddy and embarrassed and proud without making a fool of myself in front of the author :)

:-D

Does it help to know the authors are just as nervous about making fools of themselves in front of YOU?

Emanuela ~plastic duck~ (manutwo) | 1768 comments A bit... :D

lol! I know what you mean!

Oh, man. That reminds me: Never go to a book signing with your mother.

Scott Westerfeld came to Miami for the book fair here two years ago. I'd never gone to a book signing before. I waited in line for a good little while and brought two books for him to sign: his newer steampunk YA, and his very first novel, an adult SF with seriously explicit content. Signing the adult novel, he paused, looked at me, then asked how old I was when I read it. I think I told him "12." Good grief. I wonder if he was as embarrassed as I was. (But GODDAMMIT, I wanted that book signed.)

ANYWAY, so as if that wasn't bad enough, I took my leave of the signing table, only to realize my mom was missing. I looked behind me. She was leaned over WHISPERING INTO SCOTT WESTERFELD'S EAR. His eyes were wide with surprise. I thought I would die.

My mom had this cheesy grin on her face as she rejoined me. She'd told him that my first published book (a steampunk, as it was) was going to be released that month.

Oh my God. Moms. *groans* *headdesk*

That's lovely, Christie! Thank you for sharing. Those Kindlegraph (?) autographs are so cool!

And the funny thing is that I have my head phones on and I'm listening His For The Holidays audiobook as we "speak" (currently in the middle of Harper Fox's story). :)

I think as Christmas anthos go, this one is one of the best. Not thinking of my story -- though I like mine! -- I'm thinking of the other stories. They're all so strong, very different and very true (?) to what each author writes, but I think they all flow together. And they leave the reader feeling warm and content -- which is surely a festive feeling?

message 327: by Christine (last edited Dec 22, 2012 12:15PM) (new)

Christine | 458 comments Hallo! I took The Dickens with Love with me on my family's annual Christmas Disney vacation. Honestly, I couldn't resist finishing it on the three-hour drive up, but I was DETERMINED to have a cool photo to post here. So, I made it my mission to find the perfect place in Disney to pose my Kindle and, well, pretend that I was reading it there.

I chose The Yacht Club Resort. The hotel has a turn-of-the-century theme with all of this stiff, ornate Victorian furniture. If I had to pick a place to curl up and read The Dickens with Love, it'd be the lobby of The Yacht Club--especially when the resort it is all dressed up for Christmas!

Here is my Kindle chilling (not literally--it was disappointingly warm outside) on a chair in the lobby. The "brickwork" to either side of the chair is actually made of gingerbread. It's part of the facade of a store that sells Christmas treats.

description

And here, just for fun, is a Christmas carousel that is just a few steps away from that chair:

description

The carousel is made completely of gingerbread, chocolate, and other sweets. Among the ingredients are 50 lbs of dark chocolate and 10 quarts of simple syrup. Placed around the carousel are chocolate statues. They--that is, the Disney staff, not the statues--remake the entire display every year. :)

(Sorry about the photos being sideways. Not sure how to fix that. :-/)

Thank you for sharing your pictures with us, Christine!

I'll carry on the Christmassy theme. :) Santa brought me iPad mini and I Spy Something Christmas is the first new book I've downloaded on it.

We've spent our Christmas mostly inside so far, because the weather is awfully cold (-25 degrees Celsius) and windy. There is fire in the fireplace and I'm glad I don't have to go far away from it. ;) We've eaten too much and everyone is now digesting all that good food in front of the TV or reading books on the sofa and around the dinner table. Pretty soon I'm going to go to bed and start reading Josh's newest Christmas story. How lovely. :)

Lovely pic, Johanna, and Josh is strategically placed on top of The Charioteer :D

-25 Celsius sounds extremely cold to me. It's been fairly mild here for the time of year and we've had loads of rain. Enjoy the new book!

Anne | 6816 comments What lovely Christmassy photos Christine and Johanna. I am currently curled up in the sofa with I Spy Something Christmas on my Kindle, in my pj's drinking coffee and eating sweets in stead of real food :). It is not so cold here, but it's a white Christmas outside and warm and festive inside.

ETA: Who else can write this sentence: " I loved the taste of his laughter"? I am falling in love with Josh's writing all over again.

Hambel wrote: "Lovely pic, Johanna, and Josh is strategically placed on top of The Charioteer :D"

Yep. ;) The Charioteer has been on hold a few days now. Josh's new release always pretty much preempts every other book. :)

Hambel wrote: "-25 Celsius sounds extremely cold to me."

-25 Celsius is ok if there is no wind, but since I live by the sea... it's unfortunately always pretty windy here and the wind makes -25 C feel like -35 C. And that is definitely too cold to be outside just for fun. ;)

That was a sweet line. :) I also loved the huff of sounds that Stephen made from time to time when dealing with Mark. The sounds that were not quite a laugh, but softer than exasperation. LOL.

And another funny thing: When I read your post Anne, just like you I was curled up on the sofa with my iPad, in my teddy pj's eating chocolate. :)

Johanna, that is part of what this holidays is for me, just relaxing, not rushing around to do something, eating ( or drinking) something just because it tastes good and not necessarily has to be healthy :), enjoying a book, enjoying life. And my kids nearby, doing the same things.
