That is one big glob of gum!
That is one big glob of gum!

They are so very bio, without any chemical stuff that they might as well develop feet and crawl away...

Oh! I love how your apples look! And that angel statue is beautiful!
Thank you for sharing, dear.

Is it a weeping angel? Those are scary, but the graveyard looks nice and peaceful so probably not :p

She's not exactly weeping, but looking down very mournful, reaching out with one hand to put some flowers down. Here's a bigger version of the photo.
She belongs to a family grave. I think the earliest date is about more than 150 years ago.

And I see applepie, when I look at your apples :-)

I don't mind graveyards generally, but I'm not keen on weeping angels.

Wealthy family... It's also quite an elaborate gate. It's almost beautiful, in the daylight.

And graveyards in the middle of the day are not spooky at all, just lovely and serene, I find.

What is it with the weeping angels? I'm missing some background here, probably. Are they supposed to be scary or something?

I think I must have read a story with one which scared me. Also, I think of angels as being beautiful and above all human cares, so the idea of them weeping feels wrong.

Isn't that interesting? But I suppose the idea is something so grievous it would make even an angel weep.

You don't watch Doctor Who? Here you are, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByPrD... and whatever you do, DON'T BLINK

Thanks for telling me that. Strangely, I have no association for wheeping angels. Hm. Why would they be above all human cares? Somehow I thought they would be compassionate.

I watch on Netflix once in a while, I'm maybe 1 1/2 season behind though, I'm not too keen on Moffats writing so not catching up as fast as I used to :p

That is such a good episode! The Doctor Who weeping angels are so creepy. Oh, and I'm the same, Idamus. Stephen Moffat is not my favourite, so I'm still a season behind. He's written some good episodes in the past for Russell Davies, but I'm not loving his work at the helm. The new season is on TV here right now, and I really want to see Peter Capaldi, but I resist because I'm not caught up yet. And yet, I'm not super excited about catching up. Hmm.

They really are creepy

I was pleased when Peter Capaldi was chosen to be the Doctor because he's in one of my favourite films (Local Hero). Josh, you must re-watch Local Hero before you go to Scotland! Even though it's 30 years old I'm sure it is still accurate for some parts of Scotland.

Oh yes. It's about time for another rewatching. :-)

Local Hero is so wonderful. What a great film. I could do with a re-watching myself. And Peter Capaldi is lovely in it.

Alison, for some reason I always imagine that New Zealand is a bit like Scotland. Is it? I don't know if you've actually been to Scotland! If not, imagine a combination of the various versions of The Thirty-Nine Steps and Local Hero ... (Don't yell too loudly at me, any Scots out there)

Well, I think there is a reason so many Scots settled in New Zealand.

Yes, there are definitely similarities. It's very green and rugged and it rains a lot and it's kind of rural. And yes, there are a lot of Scots here. I have been to Scotland and it's one of my favourite places. I lived in Edinburgh for six months when I finished university and had one of the best times of my life. I fully intend to go back someday for a visit. Up until fairly recently the biggest immigrant group by far has always been from the UK, so there are a whole lot of people here from that part of the world. The native Maori people make up about 15% of the population, so this is very much a country of immigrants. Heck, even the Maori are immigrants--they are said to have arrived here sometime in the 13th century.

Wow! Thank you for the picture. Where is that?

Great, enjoy your time there!

That looks wonderful, Loretta! Enjoy — both the beach and the book! Sounds like a perfect day to me... :-)

Here are Elliot and Tucker at Castillo de San Cristóbal. This is the "new" fort built in 1793. The first photo is inside a concrete pillbox built during WWII and used by the US as a lookout for enemy ships and planes. The second is the outside looks like.

Here they are at the old fort Castillo San Felipe del Morro built in 1539. Elliot was fascinated by the history of these forts being active military bases for 400 years. They sent Josh a post card wishing he was there :)
