Cool! It will be interesting to revisit these.

message 804: by Alison (new)

Alison | 4756 comments I am familiar with the Moomins and their cuteness but have never read any of the books. I must rectify this! Looks like the library has quite a lot, so I'll definitely have a look.

message 805: by Sabine (new)

Sabine | 3041 comments I have watched the Moomins in german tv and read two or three books. I liked them as a child and loved the Augsburger Puppenkiste version.

Varecia | 956 comments Not as cute as a Moomin, but I promised to tak some of Josh's MCs to Prague with me :-)
Well, Swift had to do the classical tour, Charles Bridge and Castle Hill:

Varecia | 956 comments We had to get up at 6 in the morning, to have a chance with Charles Brigde! During the day it is impossible to take a picture there (of cause we picked the only cloudy day, but that was to be expected, the way the whole vacation went...)

For Connor I searched for something to do with kids and come up with the television tower in Zizkov. A czech artist did those toddlers climbing up the tower and I thought it would keep Connor on his tows :-))

Thank you so much for sharing these, Varecia! It looks like Swift had a WONDERFUL time with you!

That was 'so Swift' to want to take the classical tour. ;-)

I love Prague. Did you see the tiny house Franz Kafka used to live in?

message 811: by Varecia (new)

Varecia | 956 comments And the last one is Elliot, of cause. With all his "battlefield seminars" I took him out on the plain of the White Mountain, where one of the most important early battles in the 30-years-war took place. The building on the hillside is the summer residence Hvezda (star), which holds in the basement a very detailled showing of the battle.

I know what you mean, but not this time - it is now part of the castle-tour, which means you need a ticket just to enter the small lane and it is closed early in the morning and during the nights. Well...

But I used to do my own Kafka-tours, from the house he was born to his school, the Assurance company he worked for and at last to Olsany cemetery, where he is buried. That made for interesting travel through various parts of town :-)

message 813: by Antonella (new)

Antonella | 11568 comments Thank you for the pics, dear Varecia! Your dedication is admirable. I doubt I would get up at 6 o' clock, not even for Josh.

Me too I love the town. In fact I've got a standing invitation for Prague, I should just find the time to go back...

:-)

Well, it was only 50% for Josh, the other 50% was for my daughter - she wanted to take part in a contest about the best holiday-picture with our "hometown fair-trade chocolate" on it and choose one special statue on Charles Bridge for the foto. So we made a deal, I took that picture and she in turn held the ebook-reader for me, otherwise it would have ended in the Vltava, I'm sure!

Lovely! You'd better do an inventory of your Josh books before she leaves in case some of those pretty paperbacks decide that they want a photo-opportunity in Oslo...

This particular book has a disposition for travelling. It came from the US via Germany to Finland, so Norway would only be small step... :-D

I was happy :). I have never been so pampered since I was a child, I think. Good food, chocolate, a blanket, Josh's books, discussions about books and authors we love, friendship and laughter. I will never forget this weekend :)

I think this photo goes well on this topic. I'm a happy owner of an Adrien English scarf! Yes, you heard right. ;-) Anne had knitted this scarf while listening to her Adrien English audio books. Now there is a scarf that must have a wide range of emotions knitted in it! :-)

I thought you guys might enjoy seeing this. :-)
