Photos — Josh's books in the reality of readers

Thank you so much for my shark photo! When I logged in and saw the number of new posts under "Josh's books in the reality of readers" I thought: Johanna's back! Yay, lovely photos of the Maldives! and I was right. Just what I need as I listen to the torrential rain hammering on the conservatory roof.
So glad you had a lovely, relaxing time, and that you found the key to be no internet. Kuredu has gone to the top of my wish list now.
Love the idea of you leaping in after Harper's book!! You've got your priorities straight. Just as well it wasn't an ereader...

Where are you going?"
I am going to Vietnam and Cambodia. Shall take pictures, and maybe Josh's books get to travel a little more. They do live in my Kindle after all, and that one goes wherever I go :)

I hope you have a lovely holiday to help you recover a little from the events of the last month or so.

Thanks, Hj! :)
Tim is awfully cute, isn't he. He was also so goofy that if we put our snorkeling masks on and just stayed in the water he came to say hi and swam around us. I have this funny video of him swimming by a heron (standing in the water) several times and how the heron takes a couple of uncertain steps backwards, shivers and shakes his head to Tim like he was saying: "Huh. Now that's a too big fish for me to eat..."
And yes, jumping after Harper's book was some kind of book lover reflex I think. ;) I didn't even stop to think if it was a low or a high tide (mercifully it was high tide or otherwise I probably would have broken my legs). Hubby pointed out afterwards that there was a ladder to the water near by, but what does he know?! I was TERRIFIED that Harper's book would be ruined and that I couldn't finish reading it! Using the ladder would have taken too many precious seconds... ;)

I shall take good care of it. :) One of the things I really look forward to seeing is Angkor Wat, so perhaps a picture with that in the background...

That would be perfect!

Don't forget Halong Bay. And the pho. I think it's worth going to Vietnam just for the pho. I'm hungry just thinking about it.

NOT THAT I'M CRITICIZING. But I don't think the water will quench this book's thirst. Karen, you have to take the book into a pub or a wine bar or something! Think of the book's reputation!"
LMAO. This is is exactly what I was thinking, because all the previous pictures Karen has posted on this topic have had wine classes with the books. :)"
I'm sitting here downloading and editing photos from today's long, amazing outing. Spouse is already "at work," but conveniently the outdoor dance tent is right across from our rooms, so I can wind down with a glass of wine, listen to the music, and dress up in awhile to walk outside to our "front yard" to dance. Then I read your posts and almost splattered the screen. :-) Our first day here, water seemed to be more of a rare commodity than beer, wine, and tequila! A local turned us on to "Victoria," a dark amber beer between Corona and Negro Modela (same brewery). It's served very cold and has a clean, rich taste. I've never seen it as an import, but I bet the guys would enjoy. Maybe they need a vacation to central Mexico...

I'm sincerely hoping that you did an instant and subconscious appraisal of the tide waters before you jumped! Sheesh, Johanna.

I don't think you should be worried ( but I find it sweet that you do) ;) The traffic is probably the most dangerous thing, and feral dogs( thus the rabies vaccine). The people I am told, is very friendly. But I might check in a time or two even so!

I'm torn between wanting you to check in so that we know you're alright, and thinking that being completely out of touch with your normal life might be the best thing for you to do. You can immerse yourself in the totally different scenery and culture and not be wrenched back to our world and your problems. You know, how we used to go on holiday before the internet!
Well, it's not the Japanese cocktail, but the rose petals seemed appropriate for BRB.
I thought Will and Taylor might take on a Mexican assignment. The Victoria might appeal, not so sure about the fancy tacos. ;-)

Wow what great pictures :)

Yes, remember how we used to do it before? No telephone calls because that was too expensive, no internet, and sending postcards that usually arrived three weeks after we had come home ourselves :)
I shall see what I will do, my theory is that there will be access in the big cities, maybe not everywhere else. Might stay away at lest for days on end, but will probably also send some signals to immediate family when I travel.

Those are great! and the Mexican food makes me instantly hungry.
Oh! And it just flashed into my mind that in the first book I wrote something about salsa giving Taylor indigestion. I'd almost forgotten about that!

Thank you, dear Johanna, for helping me with the pictures.
Aww... Anne, the pictures are LOVELY. The Angkor Wat picture has ageless beauty in it. Peace and magic at the same time. :-)
And thank you for thinking of us during such a special moment.

I loved the trip, the people and the countries, especially Vietnam! Would I go back? If it wasn't for work and the very long journey to get there, definitely! There is still so much I would have liked to see and do.
One nice thing about bicycling through little villages is that we came so close to people. Some of the roads we travelled are so narrow, cars or buses cannot go there, only scooters and bicycles. People live their lives mostly out of doors, so we saw them doing their jobs, washing clothes in the river, weeding the kitchen garden, toiling in the rice fields, a mother who sang her baby to sleep in a hammock, kids cycling to school in their uniforms, some of the girls wearing beautiful white Ao Dai's, people worshipping, celebrating the beginning of the Buddist new year. My brain is still full of sounds, smells and images :)

Thank you, Johanna. It is a privilege to be able to travel and allowed to talk about it afterwards :). First a traveller, then a story-teller, right? ;)

This was so interesting to read. I can only imagine what it would be like to actually see and experience it. Thank you for sharing this with us. Share more photos if you can. :-)

Hey everybody! Here is a photo of Anne's 'real life' in Oslo with her comment:

I was cleaning and making my balcony ready for the miracle of summer when I can sit outside and read when I decided to show my real reality, not the adventurous part. :) So, if you look closely, it is CUTYS on the Kindle and a page from Josh's site on Goodreads on the I- pad, my knitting and my cup of coffee. Now, this is my everyday reality. Just as enjoyable as my travels.

It's not difficult at all once you figure it out, but I'm happy to help this way too! :-)
I like your balcony pic and I'm envious of the small leaves you already seem to have on your trees there in Oslo! It looks like your spring is at least one week ahead of spring here in Oulu. Anyway, I love your violets!
Wait! Do I see some street art in the upper left corner of your pic? Or is it an advertisement or a poster of some kind?

Okay... my violets want to say "Hi" to yours, Anne! :-) Today has been grey and rainy, and the violets on my front yard are all wet and you can almost see them shivering — poor, tiny things. I took a picture of them with CUTYS and the post-its... hoping that the cute cover guy will cheer them up. ;-)

We just came back from celebrating our friend's 60th birthday and it was lovely to meet some old friends we haven't seen for a long time, for years even. Tomorrow is Mother's Day and we are hoping to have a warmer and sunnier weather, because my parents are going to have lunch with us and we would love to start our barbecuing season!

Oh, the pool is up? Congrats!!! I can almost imagine the smug, wide smile you have on your face right now. ;-) Your summer has officially started — Yay! And yes, we want evidence — time to learn how to post photos on GR, Josh. (Or to mail them to me and I'll post them for you.) :-)
We did get to barbecue today, first time for this spring. :-) The smell of the barbecue was divine! Not just because we were all hungry, but mainly because it smelled and felt like summer. ;-)
