Would you consider the ending of KEEP THE ASPIDISTRA FLYING to be a happy one?


I don't, actually, I feel it's a similar ending to that of 1984 - a dissident absorbed by convention. Though I don't begrudge him the much more preferable comfort he would no doubt enjoy as a consequence, I believe it to be a statement as to the subjugation of art by marketing (something it's easy to see on this site in places). I've just realised how old this thread is, however, so you probably no longer care. I'll stop there. :)
