You're in Barnes? I'm Clapham! I occasionally work in Blackfriars. Hail, almost-neighbour (in two ways...). I'm liking the atmosphere of these Olympic weeks - it's surprisingly benevolent. You can probably guess from that that I was a right old curmudgeon beforehand.

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments Cool! I used to live in Southfields, so was even more of an almost-neighbour, but moved to Barnes a year ago on Sunday. I was impossibly curmudgeonly about the whole thing beforehand, but it has all been very groovy.

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Well Roz, zat is an interesting qvestion.

I have called you all here today to reveal that a great sin has been committed, the sin of murder most foul!
I have three suspects, each dastardly and devilish, super villains of the worst sort.

Suspect the first!
She roams the halls of the UKAKF monitoring each member, strict and steadfast she holds the whip of discipline and enjoys its use. She is one not to be crossed. Also she is Canadian, possibly the most violent tribe on the face of the earth.
Suspect the second!
He is a friendly man, enjoying the company of all, helpful and understanding, but underneath the veneer the cracks are forming, His paranoia taking hold, what lengths would he go to hold on to his power?
Suspect the third!
She is sweet and innocent, a cheerful sort, delivering comfort to the sick and depressed. Her fluffy pillows and chocolate brownies are a delight for all, but what is hiding behind her smile? What evil lurks within those brownies? Are those pillows made of more than just fluffy feathers?

Was it death by chocolate?

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I fear it was a drowning - in the chocolate fountain! There are worse ways to go, probably...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments And we have photos of the exact fountain as well!

Ah but were any of the three suspects seen in the vicinity or is there a shadowy fourth suspect?

How about the mysterious member who sometimes goes under the name of a large flightless bird? Has been known to pop up as a villian in certain superhero stories...?

To be sure, Ostrich is a singular name for a villain, but there's no reason why he shouldn't be feared.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments No,no, Kiwi of course!

I think that third suspect sounds dangerous and is no doubt capable of great evil....who is she by the way???

What about that little mermaid??? There is something a bit fishy about her if you ask me....

message 116: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments Interesting that you bring up the little mermaid Miss DD, trying to deflect guilt perhaps? Hoping to frame someone else for your crimes?

And what of said Mermaid, death by drowning would surely point toward her and she was seen in the vicinity and we all heard the exchange at the birthday party, but perhaps that is what the fiend wants us to think.

Ahh the kiwi, you are right GL he should be on every list, my mortal foe, he has evaded me for many years, uncommonly quick witted, his intelligence and trickery know no bounds!

Members beware!

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 7663 comments Me???

Guilty???

I promise you faithfully that the Brownie was still on the plate when I left the room!!!

message 118: by Roz (new)

Roz Morris (rozmorris) | 39 comments The mermaid - or murmaid? - couldn't run away. A bit of a dumb career move

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments But do you know of The Kiwi's sidekick, The Penguin? Or their great rival The Moa (found in the Amazon)?

message 120: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments I've always found the best way to do maximost evil is to stay off the suspects list, until at least page 320.

Bwahahahahaha!

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Okay, step away from the brownies, this has gone far enough. Timothy Leary wants his tablets back D.D. Can you see what you've done now.

Now they'll be queuing at the door to get in.

Why am I being dragged in to this???

I'm nothing but an almost innocent bystander!!!

message 128: by Roz (new)

Roz Morris (rozmorris) | 39 comments D D - so long as you're not in the library with the murmaid and the ostrich, you'll be fine.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Hi Alexandra, welcome to the group.

I had some happy years working in Bristol back in the *0's. I used to drink in Ye Shakespeare near the station. Is it still there? I probably chatted your granny up in there a couple of times :)

message 138: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments What a kind boy you are Simon. It makes a granny's day when someone chats her up!

Hi Alexandra - welcome to our world.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments She was probably only 24 when I met her :)

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Hi Alexandra and welcome to the sanest place on the Interweb, apart from the other places.

Love the area around Bristol. Eaten in quite a few places in Clifton as I was working in Chipping Sodbury. in Fact, a friend of mine owns a fabulous Chinese Restaurant in CS.

I hope you find this place to your liking. We love it here.

message 145: by Ruth (new)

Ruth Jacobs (ruthjacobs) | 6 comments Hi I'm Ruth Jacobs, the author of In Her Own Words... Interview with a London Call Girl Although I say I am the author, I only transcribed the words of a brave and beautiful woman who I video interviewed for my research on prostitution in the late 1990s. She was a very special friend, who I loved dearly and sadly she is now dead. That is why I am donating all the royalties from this publication to Beyond the Streets, a charity that helps women exit prostitution. Research shows that 9 out of 10 women want to exit but the help just isn't available. So far the book has had 14 x 5* reviews on Amazon between the UK and US websites. I would love for people to read it and to review it on here. It's only 6 pages on a kindle. Q, the woman interviewed, was brutally honest, and exposed her innermost self. I do believe it is an enlightening and moving piece. As one reviewer in the US said, have a box of tissues nearby.

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Can I just say here that Ruth is wonderful and brave and deserves all the support available. She is new to Goodreads (of whose members on the Amazon Kindle Forum I have sung their praises - not sure that makes sense but wine is wine!) If Patti and Simon (you wonderful people - now that does make sense!) can guide her around the site that would be wonderful!!!

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Hi Ruth, welcome to the group. I expect your book could get some lively conversation. Threads how all over the place and the best way to promote your book is to start and author thread. This particular welcome thread gets removed once a month so you don't have much chance of fame here.

Check out the author guidelines and go for it. Of course you are welcome in all the other threads if you can figure out what is going on.
