You know what I'm talking about. Those books that leave you feeling bereaved - whose endings are so "What the hell just happened?" that you are stuck in total disbelief. Here is the place to talk about the books whose endings had you curled up on the couch, seconds away from an fridge raid (please use the spoiler html ((view spoiler)) if there are any spoilers)

Mine? Probably His Dark Materials, The Amber Spyglass. The end of that (view spoiler) was HEARTBREAKING!

And the most heartbreaking endings are the ones that end - when you know there is NO other book afterwards.

Olivia (olivia1395) | 1948 comments Oh! This is a great idea Booknut!

A book that has left me curled in a corner hyperventilating and waiting for the next one is definitely Clockwork Prince. I can not wait for Clockwork Princess!

message 3: by L (new)

L | 1252 comments The end of Harry Potter when i cried at the realization it was all over!! no! and also at the end of a fantasy trilogy by an author called Chris Evans (the iron elves) whose books i so loved & did not want to end.

message 4: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 21 comments The Hunger Games Trilogy (duhhh)
The Wings Series
Massive book depression... why do they have to end?

message 5: by Sue (new)

Sue (youvebeensued) Harry Potter for sure. Though I'm not a huge fan, I really didn't want the story to end.

message 6: by Loegwen (new)

Loegwen | 59 comments I agree with The Giver. It ended so unsatisfactorily!

So did Mockingjay. It's like, that's it? What just happened? It seemed too happily ever after.

Agreed! The ending of Harry Potter was MAGNIFICENT!!! But it didn't make me cry any less! Just the realization that I will never get to read another new part of Harry's story..it had me bawling of course!

The Hunger Games ending was just so...abrupt. I didn't like at all how Suzanne Collins 'closed it'.

the book does have a trilogy. There are two after it but are not about Jonas. They're separate to the first but similar in terms of the themes, aspects, community etc.

I know!!! I was like "Yeah, being captured is horrible - can't deny that - but you're pregnant too!!" Yikes. The next book better have a nice, lovely conclusion, otherwise I may be in need of therapy. :D

L | 1252 comments My mother asked me yesterday what 'kind' of book i would like for my XMAS present, and if you recal i did hint a while ago about 'The Casual Vacancy'. However after much thought i realized that i am more into fantasy and not so much into depression or looking at the 'horrors' of what lurks beneath the glossy UK streets...after all it would be a bit distressing to read as i myself live in state housing (on an estate).

So i have decided against it..i know! But, i would hate for her to buy it and then be disapointed.

Yeesh I know, books are way too expensive...

message 40: by talltyrion (new)

talltyrion | 708 comments House of Many Ways drop-kicked me into depression, not because I didn't like the ending, but because it was all over. Like, "It's been a hell of a ride, and it's been nice knowing you through it. Now die." I suffered through months of agony and hope for the hopeless.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone was another beautiful killer. This one was like: "It was great until it wasn't and then I knew and once I knew I knew and I couldn't unknow even though I wanted to so bad." The waiting was like the moment after you get the wind knocked out of you: your lungs are screaming for air and all you want to do is breathe but you can't.
Pandemonium, oh, the anguish you caused me. I was beyond words or consoling. Like, "It's not fair, but you knew that. The world is ending, and I don't know what comes next."

Anna Wood-Gaines (annabanana13) | 1674 comments I keep trying to read another book, get a few chapters in, and then close it in disgust. Not because it's a bad book, but because I want it to be Clockwork Princess. I want it to have the beautiful complex characters and everything else CP has. I want it to have my Will *sob*
