R.J. Gilbert (rjagilbert) | 68 comments Neil wrote: "We don't have a trailer for our book (No oil in the lamp) but perhaps we ought to make one. We have a blog and a FB page."

I created my own video trailer and posted it to YouTube. The only cost to me was to license the song that I wanted in the background, but that was a personal choice.

If you have Microsoft Office 2010, Powerpoint has the ability to convert your slide show into a Windows Media Video file. I added the soundtrack by editing it further with Windows Live Movie Maker, which came either came with the OS or with my Office package.

All the photos were taken by me on my back porch (except for the panoramic sky, which my wife cropped from a vacation photo). I did use Adobe Photoshop to make them look like video-game images, but again, that was a personal choice.

I will pass on advice from one of the author's forum's I visit: don't use the trailer to sell your book, use it to share the message that's in the book.

Heidi Peltier | 19 comments Here is my book trailer for Isola di Squalo, my first and only published novel. The title is about to undergo a change (the title is in Italian and seems to confuse people about whether they will be able to read the book.) It will be changed to Isola di Squalo: The Delmar Shark Chronicles. Hopefully that will help.

message 26: by David (new)

David Reed | 1 comments DOORSTEP BIBLE Answering Mormons & Jehovah's Witnesses is available in a pre-publication edition at DoorstepBible.com while undergoing a final proofreading via crowd-sourcing.

It features a modern-language Bible version with footnotes responding to Mormon and JW misuse of Scripture -- the passages they love to take out of context and distort. Footnotes also highlight passages they avoid because the plain reading of Scripture proves their peculiar doctrines to be erroneous.

Loretta (lorettalivingstone) | 50 comments Hi, I don't have a book trailer, but I wonder if anyone can tell me how to post a giveaway link and where it would be appropriate? Mine was just approved.

message 34: by Cathy (last edited Apr 17, 2013 12:45PM) (new)

Cathy Bryant (authorcathybryant) I listed a giveaway and Goodreads did the rest. I now have over 100 people who have entered.

message 35: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Bryant (authorcathybryant) Also, your website or facebook author page is a good place to post.

message 36: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalivingstone) | 50 comments Thanks Cathy, I tweeted it and put it on my Squidoo blogs and my Facebook pages, so let's hope for the best. I have 3 entries so I'm starting to relax a bit now. Wow, 100 entries, fantastic. It's exciting isn't it, especially when it's your first.

message 37: by Cathy (last edited Apr 17, 2013 01:42PM) (new)

Cathy Bryant (authorcathybryant) Yes, I wish I had known about goodreads before now. I just looked and I actually have 144 entries. I think they must direct readers, who have listed your genre, to the book giveaway.

message 38: by Loretta (new)

Loretta (lorettalivingstone) | 50 comments I think also maybe when someone enters their friends see it in their feed? I'm such a newbie and so excited I'm on here every few minutes checking my numbers lol! I'm up to 4. Has your giveaway been running long?

It's very user friendly, isn't it. And people are very helpful.

What genre do you write?

Liam Perrin (liamperrin) | 3 comments Brant I like your trailer a lot - and I'd love to know what tools and sources you used to create it!

message 46: by Brant (new)

Brant | 6 comments Liam wrote: "Brant I like your trailer a lot - and I'd love to know what tools and sources you used to create it!" Sure thing!

1. I have a mac, so I used imovie '08 for the software.
2. I then chose a theme for the video. I went for simple, serious and intriguing, vs busy and action packed.
3. I then joined a free trial at videoblocks and downloaded the footage that fit the theme you see in the trailer. Here is a link to that: Download FREE Stock Video and Audio Clips
4. I then scripted out what I planned to say, somewhat based on the footage I found.
5. I recorded my voice overs using a very simple mic, actually, this one, and it's as good as the $100 one I used to have. Logitech ClearChat Comfort/USB Headset H390 (Black)
6. I edited the transitions in imovie, and added some stock music/sound effects at the end.

It does take a bit of time to master imovie skills, but in the end this trailer didn't cost any money, only time.

Hope this helps! Feel free to contact me if you have more questions brant818 (at) gmail.com

Windows has comparable software if you don't have a mac, so if that's the case, the other resources I posted will still be helpful. The video footage is the main component.

message 48: by Liam (new)

Liam Perrin (liamperrin) | 3 comments Thanks Brant. I think you did a great job matching footage to script. I started down the iMovie route, gave up, downloaded a 30-day trial of After Effects and disappeared for a week and a half studying tutorials lol. Videoblocks looks like a great resource!

Cathy Bryant (authorcathybryant) In another group, D M Yates started a group board on Pinterest for authors to post their books. Since it seemed like a good idea for supporting other authors, I have set up a group board for Christian authors. I believe I have to send you an invitation if you would like to post. Send me and email at: clynn@roadrunner.com if you would like to post your book on my board at: http://pinterest.com/cathylynnbryant/...
