Hi, Laurie here from the suburbs of Chicago. Just found this group today, and it seems like a lot of fun. I've never been in a book club before, so, am a bit in the dark here, but am really looking forward to participating!

Welcome!
Wow, I need to check this thread more often! We have so many new members. Welcome, all.Shaun: thanks for joining even though I didn't reciprocate! You can see I'm a tad busy with groups at the moment. :)
Marisa: I've had Hyperion on my TBR forever. Looks like I'll need to move it up on the list.
Hi all! I'm Marianne. I'm a lifelong bookworm. I tend to gravitate towards science-fiction and fantasy, but sometimes I go on a nonfiction kick. Glad to be here!
Hi all!My name is Flore.
Does anyone here have libboo?? It's a site where you can easily get free ebooks just by asking people to click on your links.

Marianne, sounds like we might like the same kinds of books! What are your favorites?Welcome, Flore.
Hi! I'm Vivian and I love to read. I'm a fan of fantasy and paranormal romance and would really like to hear of recommendations of any good books in these genres. Looking forward to get to know you all and discover new books to read!
Vivian wrote: "Hi! I'm Vivian and I love to read. I'm a fan of fantasy and paranormal romance and would really like to hear of recommendations of any good books in these genres. Looking forward to get to know you..."Hi, Vivian, welcome! I like urban and paranormal fantasy but am not a fan of erotica, so I end up trying to take in the story around the naughty bits. I also like strong female characters. Have you read the Fever series, by Karen Marie Moning? I'd recommend it.
Hi everyone :) I'm Dineia! I'm a gigantic bookworm. I read lots of fiction books. Currently I'm reading Beautiful Disaster :)
Hi my name is Sara. I live in Virginia. I love to read. I am new to goodreads, but I am enjoying it. I plan to read 25 books this year. Not much but between work, school, and planning a wedding I will be luckily to meet my goal.
Hello all, Absolutely LOVE to read and have set myself a 50 book goal for the year. Would love to read more and if I could figure out a way to do that while crocheting/knitting then I'd be all set! ;-)
Hi all! Great to have you, and let us know if you have any questions about the group or Goodreads in general.
Hi, I'm Jennifer. I am a high school English teacher in Southern California. I enjoy reading a little bit of everything. As a teacher, I rarely have time to read what I would like, so I hope by joining this group it will give me the motivation to move beyond the literature that I teach.
Hi. My name is Melissa and I LOVE LOVE LOVE lists. So this group is right up my alley. I'll probably stick to just the main 2013 reading goal right now and perhaps a "clean off my bookshelf" reading goal but look very much forward to diving in here and getting in some challenge groups (listopia sounds divine). Great ideas here!
Welcome to the group Melissa!!! I love love love lists as well. You're going to have a lot of fun here:) enjoy!!!
My name is Lacee and I love to read and write. Crime is a big interest in mine. I am double majoring in Psychology and Criminal Justice :)
My name is Sara, and I live in New Zealand. I love to read, and am always looking for new books to read. I like the idea of the challenges. I belong to a book club that has turned into more of a drinking wine club, so it will be nice to be involved with a group that is really into books!
Well, I'm Tara. I joined here a while ago, but haven't really been active. I've read 30 books towards my goal of 101, according to the counter on my homepage. However, I've read more than that this year. If I still had all of my library receipts, I'd be able to post more books. ;-)
Hi! My name is Mattias, I'm from a small country called Estonia. During school year I only manage to read a book in a month or two, but during summers like this I get caught in reading fevers and just keep stacking my nightstand book fort.I'm mostly into YA, but not casual romance. Also fantasy. Currently invested in Twain's Tom Sawyer.
Hello! My name is Theresa and I'm pleased to have found this group. I'm a CPA and avid reader, loving a wide variety of books. I do intend to pick up your August selection, The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America, and I'll also join several of the challenges in the next few weeks.
Hi my name is Jade and I am 12. I love Wendy Mass, Lemony Snicket, Ann Brashears, and Jerry Spinelli. I am super exited to be part of this group since I am an avid reader and love a challenge. :) This will be so fun!
Hey Everyone,I've decided to join this group because I need some support to continue reading books that I normally wouldn't consider reading or discussing. I have a goal of reading at least 50 books by next year and have listed some of them that I would like to read on my profile. Recently, I've started reading books on my iPad, which has taken a little to get accustomed to, but I prefer the feel of a book in my hand while having a pencil in the other to take notes.
Hi. I am Fyne Ashmore. Writing student and wrapping up my first book. Good to be here both in Goodreads and in this group.
Hi, I am Jack, an RN on disability, father of 3 beautiful daughters, grandfather, and caring for my mother and aunt who are dependent and the focus of my attention. God has placed us all together at this poignant time in our lives. Hence, I have more time to read, listen, watch, and interact on the internet (I am an administrator of an educational Facebook group). I read more today than I ever have in my life, mainly articles and blogs from around the world when I'm on the computer. My goal is to get as close to the Truth as possible when reading about current events. My goal when reading books, watching DVDs, or listening to Audiobooks is to enhance my understanding of people and the world while being entertained. Too much of one subject totally drains me and so it is necessary to introduce variety. I listen to Audiobooks to satisfy my insatiable desire to learn and compensate for my reading skills. I would never read certain books if this avenue was not offered. I am pleasantly surprised with what I would have missed, otherwise. Lately, I fall asleep too easily when I sit or lay down to read a book. I enjoy a book that has been made into a movie to compare the two presentations. Almost always, the book is the best version. I enjoyed the Swedish movie version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest. After reading a thread that asked which version people preferred, the consensus agreed with me, the Swedish version. This lead me to watch other foreign movies, some good, some not so good. I already took this challenge but never joined this group. I hope the books I have in my Challenge transfer into this group.
Lots of new members! Welcome, all. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about the group or Goodreads in general.
Hi I'm Doug. I'm live in Minnesota and like everyone else here, i love to read. I really enjoy reading a wide variety of genres, but enjoy history non-fiction, historical fiction, science fiction, some fantasy, and general fiction. My reading has been slipping a little lately, so I look forward to participating in some of the challenges to keep me motivated.
Hello hello! I'm Tima and I live in Oregon, US. I've been lurking for a bit and finally decided to dip a toe in the water by heading to the intro area :). I was in a really bad car accident last year and am still awaiting the rest of the surgeries to correct injuries so I have lots of excess reading time on my hands! I really like the wide selection of unique challenges in this group but haven't even gotten up to the courage to make a personal list in the group yet, of books I've read far. Haha. One step at a time ;)
Hello! I'm Albany and I live in South America :) I love reading and now that I've got my Kindle it makes it much easier for me to access different types of books. I'm open to all genres and my favorites range from non-fiction to sci-fi. Can't wait to read the monthly books suggested here since sometimes I'm not sure what's good out there (too many books, too little time!).
Welcome, Albany! This is a great place for book recommendations--I feel like my TBR list has increased exponentially since I joined this group.
Hello everyone. My name is Aisha. I really like reading and buying books, but my only problem is that I'm a huge procrastinator. Hopefully, I will get over that!!! I don't have a special genre I like in books. Any good, interesting story, I go for it. Thank you.

Welcome Aisha! Ditto what Ayah said. There are just so many books in the world and we have to put some on the back burner sometimes (:
